1 We are here tonight to help parents have a better understanding of the standards taught and the curriculum used in the classroom. We will look at the specific grade level assessments given and what your child needs to know to be successful in the current grade and to move to the next grade.

Either under Quick Links: click on Common Core Georgia Performance Standards, then choose CCGPS ELA/Math tab, then choose English Language Arts or Math, click K-5, then grade level, or under JCSS Curriculum Documents: click on 2013-2014 K-5 Curriculum Documents, then choose your grade levels pacing guides or curriculum maps. http://jones.schooldesk.net/

3  Reading/ELA- Trade Books, Reading Textbook, Website, WriteScore Lessons, Language Textbook, Daily Oral Language, Writing Exploratory, & Close Reading  Remedial Reading- Orton Gillingham Phonics Program & Sonday Phonics Program  Math- Go Math Textbooks and Workbooks, Number Talks, Learn Zillion, Online Games, Hands On Manipulatives, and Various Online Resources  Social Studies- Textbook, Freedom Flix, Safari Montage videos, Social Studies Weekly Newspapers, & TrueFlix  Science- Textbook, Workbooks, Safari Montage Videos, Experiments, & United Streaming Videos

4  Grade level/unit tests- Tests are given throughout the units as well as at the end of the units. This may vary from teacher to teacher as well as subject to subject.  Benchmarks- Benchmarks are given at the end of 1 st -3 rd Nine Weeks as a diagnostic tool. This is not a classroom grade. It’s strictly used for planning instruction.  Writing- Practice Writing Tests are given each nine weeks to prepare for the State Writing Test in the Spring.  CRCT (requirements for 3 rd /5 th )- Students must pass Math and Reading sections with a minimum score of 800 or 300 for CRCT-M.

5  Continue to stay focused during school instruction. Students need to study for tests by using textbooks or study guides. Students need to come with an open mind and a willingness to work hard.

6  It is imperative that we use the rest of the year helping students to be responsible for their learning in preparation for middle school.
