I was added so American citizens would not experience the same abuse they received from the English government and I was based on the concepts found in the Magna Carta and the English Bill of Rights. Celebrate Freedom and Geography  The power to control territory is most dependent on access to resources and the ability to transport resources.  The territory was extremely large and home to many American Indian tribes  Numerous navigable rivers in North America assisted French exploration of the region.  The ability to control territory is influenced by a political entity’s capacity to maintain military power, create stable government, and provide economic investment.  British placed troops throughout the colonies.

Celebrate Freedom and Geography  Additionally scientific innovation is important for development of new techniques to manage key resources and advance military capabilities.  Favorable physical geography facilitates the mobilization of military forces and the transportation of resources, hence why the control of the Panama and Suez canals have been historical issues.  Cornwallis could not retreat after French naval forces blocked access to the river.

Celebrate Freedom and Geography  Conflicts and war arise from the need to control key natural resources, including access to water and energy sources, such as oil.  Inherent in the need to access resources is the need to control territory, so that competing claims to territories leads to conflicts also, such as the conflict in Palestine.  Physical geography serves to isolate and protect some locations and facilitate the mobilization of troops in other places.  The great distance separating the colonies from Britain made communication between colonial leaders and Parliament difficult.  International organizations such as the United Nations (UN) often serve to mitigate conflicts and respond to war.

Climate  Climate is the term for weather patterns that an area experiences over a long period of time.  A place’s weather and climate are affected by the relationship of the Earth to the Sun in two ways: The tilt of the Earth in relation to the Sun, and where the Earth is at any given time in its revolution around the Sun.
