2. Introduction! Basically, there was a guy, Henry VIII, and he was the King of England, in 1845. But he had six wives! With his fist one he had a daughter, called Mary. Then he had another girl, called Elizabeth. But Henry wanted a boy, and in 1536 he had one and he was called Edward.

3. Big Brother (or not.)  When Henry died, Edward was the first to be king because he was a boy, even though he was only 10 at the time! But Eddie died quite young and Mary, being the oldest, was next to the throne. After Mary, Elizabeth had to be queen, and she was, for 45 years!

4. Catholic + Protestant  This is a protestant preacher. Liz declared that the Church of England was Protestant, but she did not persecute people who had beliefs unless they plotted against her, unlike her sister who was Catholic and executed people for other religions. This was a big change for people in England at that time because the sisters predecessors were protestant.

5. Music and Art  Art: We know what many famous Elizabethans looked like from the miniature portraits by an artist called Nicholas Hillard.  Music: Several of the greatest musicians lived at this time. Two of the most famous were Thomas Tallis and William Byrd. They composed music to be played at home as well as a great deal of church music.

6. Explorers!!  This is Sir Walter Raleigh. He introduced tobacco and potatoes to England from America.  Some explorers tried to find a way to the Far East by sailing North-West of North-East. They all failed because they could not break through the ice.  Once the explorers had discovered new lands and sea-routes, merchants banded together to form companies to trade overseas.

7. As we all know Elizabeth was Mary Queen of Scots cousin. However Mary plotted against Liz to become heir. So Elizabeth took action and set out to kill her cousin. She and her guards collected Mary and brought her to justice, she was then beheaded in front of many spectators. However her death could of caused trouble as Elizabeth could then feel guilty, as she’s killed one of her blood relations, it could also made the Catholics angry.

9. Firstly, Mary wanted to be the Queen of England as well as Scotland. So she had a plan to try and killed her cousin Elizabeth who was currently the Queen. However Liz caught her out and sent for her guards to try and find her. When she was eventually found the Queen sent for her to be executed !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And she was…….. Go back

10. The Spanish Armada were a Spanish fleet who were Protestants that wanted independence from Catholic Spain. They were sent to invade England in the 16 th century They fought for many reasons such as ; jealousy, fear, greed and religion. They feared each others power, and hated each others religion.

11. England became sure of itself under Elizabeth’s rule and this spirit came out in it’s literature and music. The age became rich with the work of poets and writers such as William Shakespeare and many others. Until she was dying Elizabeth refused to state clearly who should follow her on the throne, but indicated then, that it should be her cousin, James V1 of Scotland. In this choice she was wise for it meant that the two kingdoms would be united, and James V1 of Scotland became James 1 of England on the day she died, March 24 th 1603.
