2 Aim and Purpose The aim of this unit is to provide learners with the skills needed to undertake a work experience placement in the sports industry

3 Learning Outcomes On completion of this unit learners should: Know the opportunities for work-based experience in sport Be able to prepare for a work-based experience in sport Be able to undertake a work-based experience in sport Be able to review a work-based experience in sport

15 Public Sector Largest providers of sport in the country Facilities are owned by the local council or authority Open to the public e.g. pay per visit Aim is to provide a service to the local community Q. Can you think of a public sector job?

16 Private Sector Private centres are usually for the use of members only Aim is to provide an excellent service to members who pay an initial joining fee followed by monthly membership fees Aim to make a profit for the owners Management team have a performance related pay agreement Q. Can you think of a private sector job?

17 Voluntary Sector Provides a lot of sport in the country Run by volunteers who enjoy sport and want to develop their club and team e.g. local football teams Rent facilities from local councils or local private facilities Largest organisations are the scouts and the guides

18 PartnershipsDual use centres Arise when more than one organisation is involved in the funding, operation or use of a facility ‘Planning Gain’ Partnerships between the public and private sectors Schools that close their educational service at 6pm and open as a public facility Maximise the investment in the school Provides opportunities for community links

19 Providers TASK: 2 different work opportunities available at each sector 1. National Organisations (across the UK) 2. Local Authorities (Conwy) 3. Governing Bodies (a group of people who formulate the policy and direct the affairs of an institution in partnership with the managers) 1. Voluntary Organisations 2. Private Sector Providers 3. Professional Providers

20 Added task: State the considerations for each opportunity e.g. travel, cost, health and safety, roles and responsibilities etc.
