2 W hat i s Waitlisting? Waitlisting is the process by which students may sign up for a waiting list for a class that is full.

3 A dvantages of W aitlisting Waitlisting will provide many advantages to students, instructors, and administrators.  The biggest advantage to students is that they will be notified when a seat becomes available on a first-come, first-served basis.  Waitlisting will be advantageous to instructors by removing the need to manually sign (Add slip) students into a class.  Waitlisting will be helpful to administrators by allowing them to track the demand for certain courses and better manage course offerings.

4 W hat does Waitlisting mean for faculty?  Instructors will now refer students to go online or to the Office of Admissions and Records to get on a waiting list.  Instructors will be able to view their class lists and the associated waiting lists in SOAR.

5 H ow it W orks ?  S tudents who attempt to register for a class that is full may put themselves on a waiting list on a first-come, first-served basis.  When an open seat becomes available, an e-mail will be sent to the SVCC e-mail address of the student at the top of the waiting list.  The student will have 24 hours from the time the e-mail is sent to add the class. During the 24-hour time period, the student can add and drop the Waitlisted class in the Add or Drop Classes section of SOAR or in the Office of Admissions and Records. After 24 hours has expired, if the student did not register for the Waitlisted class, the next student on the Waitlist will be notified and have 24 hours to respond.  Registration holds will prevent the student from adding a Waitlisted class, even if the student was sent an email.

8 S tudent Process Students can be referred to the student tutorial online at www.svcc.edu/students/admissions/waitlisting.html www.svcc.edu/students/admissions/waitlisting.html 1Student attempts to register for a closed class that has the Waitlist option. 2If the student meets the course requirements, student receives closed class registration error. Student can “select” to waitlist this course under the “action” drop-down box then submit changes.  Student IS NOT enrolled in course 3Student will be able to view the classes both registered and Waitlisted. 4If a seat becomes open, the student who is first in line receives an email notification to his/her SVCC e-mail and has 24 hours to enroll (via SOAR or Office of Admissions & Records). 5Student registers the Waitlisted class OR Student does not register the Waitlisted class  Student is Dropped after 24 hours  Next student in line is notified and the process starts over If no seats become available after the last day to add a class, the Waitlisted course will be dropped.

10 Once on Waitlist, does that mean the student is enrolled? No! If a student adds themselves to the Waitlist they are NOT enrolled in the course, they are ONLY on the Waitlist. Does Waitlist guarantee a seat? No. Waitlisting does not guarantee a seat in the class. The student should check their positions regularly on the waitlist. If they are not moving up on the waitlist, they should find an alternate course to schedule. What is the time limit after the email notification? Once the student receives the email notifying them a seat is available, they will have exactly 24 hours to complete the registration, after that time, they will be dropped off the Waitlist and the next student in line will have 24 hours. Can instructors add a student to a filled class? No. Instructors should explain to the student they need to log into their SOAR account or stop by the Office of Admissions and Records to get added to the Waitlist.

11 FAQs Does maximum credit hours restrict the student from Waitlisting? The Maximum credit hours will NOT restrict the student from adding themselves to the Waitlist. It will, however, restrict the student from actually registering into the course until a spot becomes available. The student will receive a message of “Maximum hours exceeded” if they attempt to register into the Waitlisted course. Students must drop a registered class and then add the Waitlisted course not to exceed 18 hours. Does registration restrictions keep the student from Waitlisting? Yes. The following registration rules continue to work with Waitlisting. Pre-requisites, co-requisites, links, time conflicts, and maximum credits Classes that require instructor consent What happens with non-payment of tuition? If a student does not make a tuition payment by the scheduled due date, all classes including any class on the Waitlist will be dropped..

12 S ummary  Waitlisting will remove the need for instructors to manually sign (Add slip) students into a class.  Faculty can review their waitlists via SOAR  Waitlisting will help track the demand for certain courses and better manage course offerings.
