12 November 2009 OPM Staff Development Unit 12 Internet Access Training An Internet Access Training presentation (in PowerPoint) is available on the OPM Intranet from the New Employee Orientation page. When you have completed the presentation, use the link provided to print the Certificate of Completion, sign it, and return it to the Staff Development Unit. You must also return a signed Internet Access Application Form. It’s important that you return these forms as soon as possible -- as your e-mail access is dependent upon the processing of these forms. Required by OPM for All employees Note: Be sure to register for access to the OPMatHOme Intranet site!

13 November 2009 OPM Staff Development Unit 13 Ethics Training The Office of State Ethics provides online training directly on their website. Use this link http://www.ct.gov/ethics/site/ default.asp and click on “Online Ethics Training” (on the left) http://www.ct.gov/ethics/site/ default.asp It should take you about 45 minutes to an hour to work your way through the training Please return your signed Certificate of Completion to the Staff Development Unit within your first week of employment. Required by State All Employees Annually Statutory Reference: C.G.S. § 1-81(a)(5) and § 1-89a(b)

14 November 2009 OPM Staff Development Unit 14 Diversity Training If you can provide documentation of prior attendance elsewhere within the last two years, you will not be required to attend diversity training again. If you need to attend, we will register you for Diversity Training offered by the Department of Administrative Services (DAS) Learning Center. Courses are offered during the spring and fall semesters. We’ll coordinate dates with you. Required by State All employees Supervisors within 6 months of assuming their duties Statutory Reference: C.G.S. § 46a-54(16)

15 November 2009 OPM Staff Development Unit 15 Sexual Harassment Prevention If you can provide documentation of prior attendance elsewhere within the last 2 years, you will not be required to attend sexual harassment prevention training again. If you need to attend, we will add your name to our list and invite you the next time we offer an internal training session here at OPM. Required by State for supervisors within 6 months of assumption of duties Statutory Reference: C.G.S. § 46a- 54(15)(B) Required by Agency for all Employees

19 November 2009 OPM Staff Development Unit 19 Computer Training OPM provides internal training and support for most all software programs utilized by agency staff. When we cannot, we assist in securing the services of outside vendors. Please speak with your supervisor about any training needs you may have.

20 November 2009 OPM Staff Development Unit 20 OPM Computer Training Room Our computer training room is located on the second floor directly across from the elevators. It can accommodate 15 people at a time. If you need to reserve the room, use the “Room Scheduler” found on your PC’s desktop or in the Shortcut Folder. See the Staff Development or Information Support Units for the training room key.

24 November 2009 OPM Staff Development Unit 24 Online Timesheets OPM utilizes online timesheets. It usually takes at least one pay period for you to be entered into the Core-CT system. Donna Adams, OPM’s Payroll Officer, can provide you with a hard-copy timesheet and enter your time for you, should this be necessary. After you have been entered into the Core-CT system, Donna will teach you how to enter your time online. (You can also seek assistance from your co-workers.) To obtain your password, contact Linda Wakefield, Human Resources Associate, at x6435. Linda is your contact person should you ever have any trouble with your password.

25 November 2009 OPM Staff Development Unit 25 New Employee Buddy Program New employees may request an OPM Buddy – someone who works in a division other than your own and who acts as an informal mentor for learning the ropes at OPM, assisting you in gaining an understanding of the agency. The New Employee Buddy Program began on July 1, 1994. To request a new employee buddy, contact the Human Resources Unit or Alice Clive in the Staff Development Unit.

26 November 2009 OPM Staff Development Unit 26 Reserving Conference Rooms and Equipment You can use the “Room Scheduler” (installed on every employee’s computer) to reserve OPM conference rooms and check out equipment. 27 November 2009 OPM Staff Development Unit 27 Reserving Conference Rooms and Equipment When you reserve Conference Rooms 2A, 3B, or 4A, you reserve the DVD players and monitors kept in the black cabinets as well. If the cabinets are locked; the keys are available in Alice Clive’s office. When it’s time to pick-up the AV equipment you have reserved, see Bill Ferris, Olivia Knighton, or Jordan Hill on the third floor. When returning equipment, leave it with Bill, Olivia, or Jordan. If they are not available, the Staff Development Unit acts as a back- up drop-off point. Under no circumstances should you leave equipment in a vacant office. Depending on the movie screen you reserve, you will need to pick it up from the computer training room or the second-floor hall closet.

29 November 2009 OPM Staff Development Unit 29 State-Sponsored Training In-Service Courses Staff development courses are offered spring and fall semesters by the State of Connecticut Community College System in partnership with the Department of Administrative Services. To view the latest course catalog, click on the following link: CT Community CollegesCT Community Colleges E-mail announcements notify employees of registration deadlines and provide in-house course application forms. To register for a course, consult your supervisor for approval and signature. Application forms should be returned to the Staff Development Unit.

30 November 2009 OPM Staff Development Unit 30 State Tuition Reimbursement Program The State of Connecticut’s Tuition Reimbursement Program helps employees to finance a portion of their educational expenses for courses taken on their own time at accredited higher education institutions. Each bargaining unit stipulates guidelines for the amount of reimbursement. There are also guidelines for managers and confidential employees that determine the amount that can be reimbursed per fiscal year. 31 November 2009 OPM Staff Development Unit 31 Registering for Training from Outside Vendors Depending on what you are registering for, you will need to work with OPM’s Business Office and/or Staff Development Unit to attend offsite training provided by external vendors. When in doubt, just ask!

32 November 2009 OPM Staff Development Unit 32 That’s It! Here Are Your To-Do’s! 1. Be sure to turn in your Internet Access Forms, if you have not already done so. Do this ASAP. 2. Complete the online Ethics training found on the home page of the Office of State Ethics’ website and then return your signed completion certificate. Do this within 1 week. 3. Let us know if you need to attend a diversity or sexual harassment prevention class; or if you intend to obtain documentation of prior attendance. Continued...
