3 3 Profiles, Pages & Groups Pages Groups Profiles Person A profile represents an individual named person Multiple people in your organization need profiles NOTE: Creating a profile for your organization violates Facebook’s Terms of Use and may be deleted Specific People Useful for communicating with specific groups within your organization Access can be limited to specific users Not recommended for communication with your base Organization Your organization’s Facebook presence How you interact with your base Multiple profiles can monitor and update page Link with other social media platforms and existing web presence

4 4 EXAMINE: Profile Privacy See what your Facebook profile looks like to others - specific friend or general public Privacy settings are here Applies to external applications only – not as important as it looks

6 6 BUILD: Facebook Page Most non- profit organizations should choose this option. From your Facebook profile, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the “Create a Page” link Choose Main Category Choose this option If your physical location is critical to your non-profit organization. Examples: museum, church, homeless shelter, school 1. 2.

7 7 BUILD: Facebook Page 3. 4. Enter your organization’s name (use a test name for now), and click the box indicating you agree to Facebook’s terms of use. Click on “Choose a category” to expand the drop box options and scroll down to the appropriate choice for your organization. Unless your organizations is location based, you should choose “Non- Profit Organization” 5. Click the blue “Get Started” button and enter the requested text for verification.

8 8 INFO: Facebook Page Logo Use a high quality graphical image of your organization’s logo. Optimize the dimensions of your logo to utilize the space provided. Keep your image consistent across all social media platforms. The image you select represents your organization’s online presence and is essential to creating a consistent and recognizable brand.

9 9 BUILD: Facebook Page You can choose an image on your computer or an image already on your website When finished, click on the blue “Continue” button 7.6. Uncheck both boxes at the bottom and click on the blue “Continue” button

10 10 BUILD: Facebook Page Enter the address to your organization’s website 8. Enter a short description of your organization – a mission statement is often a good choice. Make sure it is consistent with other materials and consider adding a sentence specifically about how you hope to use social media to further your organization’s mission.

11 11 EXAMINE: Facebook Page Your Logo Can be modified by hovering over and selecting “Change Picture” Page Admins Click “See All”, then “Add another admin” to add other admins to your page Use Facebook As.. Click this link to perform operations as your organization rather than your personal profile Edit Info Click here to update details about your organization. Spend some time making sure this information is complete. Edit Page (Security) Publish your page Set user abilities Set default page Delete Page

14 14 Interact, Maintain & Promote Use Facebook Plug-In on your website to promote page Allow users to “Like” directly from your website Post status updates, photos, links, videos and questions Respond to user posts Keep information current Monitor and remove inappropriate posts Promote Maintain Interact

15 15 INFO: Interact on Facebook Keep text-only status updates to a minimum Multimedia posts have higher value Questions are a good way to periodically engage your base – but don’t overuse Include a picture whenever possible Post with purpose

16 16 BUILD: Share Text & Photos 1. Enter your text in the box provided and then click “share” 2. Click on “Photo” 3. Select “Upload a photo”, then “browse” 4. In the window that pops-up, select the image and then click “share”

17 17 BUILD: Share Links 1.2. Click on “Link” Note available thumbnails and select one when relevant. If available thumbnails are all inappropriate, check the “No Thumbnail” box. 3. Try the following links: http://www.facebook.com http://www.firstindy.comm http://www.yourorg.com Add information about the link you are sharing, then click “share”

18 18 BUILD: Ask Questions 1.2. Click on “Question” Click “Add Poll Options” In most cases, uncheck this box Enter your question Enter multiple choice options Multiple choice questions offer greatest response rate Limit to 3 options when possible

Click on “Link” Create a YouTube account for your organization or post videos to a common area on your organization’s website Link to the video using Facebook’s link share functionality instead of using Facebook’s video upload WHY? Search engine optimization (SEO) Share via other platforms without redundant uploads Ease of management

20 20 BUILD: Delete/Hide Posts 1. Go to your Facebook page 2. Hover over the upper right hand corner of the post and click on the gear that appears 3. Click “delete post” and confirm What to delete? Accidental posts Spam Abusive Set a policy and be consistent
