Pituitary Gland Aka: the master gland Secretes many important hormones When it's not working it creates a lot of problems Located at the base of the brain Hypothalamus controls almost all secretions of the pituitary.

Pituitary Gland (Cont.) Anterior Pituitary: Adrenocorticotrophic Hormone (ACTH) Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (TSH) Luteinising Hormone (LH) Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH) Prolactin (PRL) Growth Hormone (GH) Melanocyte-Stimulating Hormone (MSH) Posterior Pituitary Anti-Diuretic Hormone (ADH) Oxytocin

Thyroid Gland small gland; shaped like a butterfly Located in the lower part of the neck Main hormones released: –triiodothyronine (T3) –thyroxine (T4) Hormones deliver energy to cells of the body Eormously important for teens because the manufactured hormones help in controlling the metabolism and growth of the entire body

Thyroid Gland

Adrenal Gland Two triangular shaped glands; one on top of each kidney Two parts: –Adrenal cortex: -> Outer part -> produces hormones called cortisteroids ->influence or regulate salt and water balance in the body, the body’s response to stress, metabolism, the immune system, and sexual development and functions –eeeeeee –Adrenal medulla: -> Inner part -> produces catecholamines (i.e epinephrine a.k.a adrenaline) -> increases blood pressure and heart rate when the body experiences stress

Adrenal Gland

Pancreas The first section of the small intestine. Makes digestive juices such as insulin Insulin controls the amount of sugar in the blood A compound gland because it is both exocrine and endocrine Controls carbohydrate metabolism Most common pancreatic disease is diabetes

So......We Decided That GONADS ARE THE MOST VITAL ENDOCRINE ORGAN IN YOUR BODY! Without gonads, the human race could not be continued Also as known as the reproductive system, the actual organs that produce the gamate. –In the male, the testes produce sperms. –In the female, the ovaries produce eggs. –When the sperm and the egg combines, a possibility of an offspring

Gonads Diseases (Cont.) Congenital abnormalities –Kallmann syndrome Decrease functioning of the sex hormone-producing glands, caused by a deficiency of a hormone Cancers –Ovarian cancer –Testicular cancer –Penile cancer Infection –Genital warts –Herpes simplex –Pubic lice Functional problems –Impotence –Premature ejaculation

No more balls…. If the gonads are removed, there won’t be reproduction. Female: Hysterectomy –Removal of the uterus Male: Vasectomy –Sterilization
