1 3 rd International Conference on Transforming Healthcare with IT 31 st Aug.-1 st Sep. 2012 Hyderabad, India The network is primarily intended to provide Telemedicine and Continuing Medical Education (CME) services to remote Patient End Locations in SAARC Countries by establishing a communication network connecting India and member country. In India, two hospitals namely PGIMER, Chandigarh & SGPGIMS, Lucknow are offering the Tele-medicine & CME services. In Member Country, one Patient End Location is receiving these services. TCIL’s role is to design, establish and maintain the network for a period of 1 year. Tele-Medicine Network for SAARC

2 3 rd International Conference on Transforming Healthcare with IT 31 st Aug.-1 st Sep. 2012 Hyderabad, India Network Architecture VSAT network with a hub in Bangalore and VSAT terminal at JDWNRH in Bhutan, IGICH in Afghanistan & Patan Hospital in Nepal Multi-protocol Label Switching (MPLS) connectivity from hub station in Bangalore to PGIMER, Chandigarh & SGPGIMS, Lucknow CME & Tele-medicine setup at PGIMER, Chandigarh & SGPGIMS, Lucknow. The tele-Medicine server is installed at Hub station in Bangalore. Tele-medicine & CME setup at JDWNRH, Bhutan, IGICIH, Afghanistan & Patan Hospital, Nepal. The network is operating in Ku-Band through THAICOM-4 satellite.

4 3 rd International Conference on Transforming Healthcare with IT 31 st Aug.-1 st Sep. 2012 Hyderabad, India Present Status Afghanistan The network was commissioned in IGICH, Afghanistan on September 1, 2009. Considering the immense benefit to doctors, Afghanistan govt. has requested GoI for extension of the project for one more year. Govt. of India has approved the extension of the project. Nepal The network was commissioned in Patan Hospital, Nepal on January 21, 2011. The network is currently functioning satisfactorily between Patan Hospital, Nepal and PGIMER,Chandigarh / SGPGIMS, Lucknow
