Video Conferencing and IP Telephony zPartnerships and collaborations with selected vendors zCreation of a global gatekeeper scheme zMaintaining, updating and enhancing the Videoconferencing Cookbook zDevelopment of a videoconferencing test suite zCollaboration with SURA and BBN on the establishment of a core set of network services for use throughout the SURA region

ViDe.Net zDistributed test bed and model network zSelected as Internet2 Commons H.323 architecture zVideo and Voice over IP Showcase for real time multimedia services over IP zPublic Services: yRelocation of LSVNP equipment to SoX, Canarie, SURFNet and ANU for use by global public zone yPublic zone resources available to SURA community on self-service basis

LSVNP zJan 2000 – June 2001 zData analysis zReport prepared for publication zKey value – ViDe experience in operating an IP VC service, leading to Best Practice summary for ViDe.Net community

VidMid zWorking Group of I2 Middleware zhttp://middleware.internet2.edu/video/ zGetting IP video/voice info into directory zUse of standards based directories by gatekeepers

Internet2 Commons zInternet2 sponsorship of ViDe for Commons deliverables zCommons leadership team membership zInfrastructure support and equipment scheduling zResearch and development: directory programming zCommons portal: educational materials and community support www.internet2.edu/html/commons.html

Video Access Working Group zDevelop a flexible, scalable metadata architecture zEmploy and interoperate whenever possible with open standards in information management zDevelop multiple delivery systems for the architecture zProvide extensive proof-of-concept testing through a video access web-based portal. zDisseminate draft and final products to a wide audience of developers and managers zEncourage use of the metadata architecture through presentations, training and a significant web presence.

Data Collaboration Working Group zData collaboration needs analysis in higher education zAnalysis of T.120 and other standards zData collaboration tool discovery zReview and testing of viable tools zBibliography of related books, papers zWeb site resources

Numerical Addressing Space (NASM) zManagement of ViDe.Net numerical address space zDesigns the numerical address space and supporting routing schemes zAllocation of ViDe.Net address space to lower tier domains zIdentification of organizations and research networks responsible for managing national gatekeepers zArchitectural recommendations via support of the ViDe.Net Zone Administrators

MPEG4 zIdentify industry partners interested in collaborative MPEG-4 application development zAscertain the "state-of-the-art" of MPEG-4 technology development zEstablish a base for and promote the adoption of MPEG-4 technologies in higher education zPromote awareness of MPEG-4 in the academic community and beyond

Outreach zViDe website (www.vide.net) zDigital Video Workshops zPresentations at conferences such as Educause, CNI, NLANR Techs, Internet2, IMTC H.323 Forum, TeleCon, VidTrans 2002

Additional Projects & Working Groups zMicrosoft Conferencing Server Testing and Integration Identify the issues of integrating Microsoft 2000 Conferencing Server with the existing ViDe.Net architecture. zViDe.Net Scout Design and build a network analysis tool that will simulate video and voice over IP traffic. It can be used to predict video and voice performance, as well identify network related problems. zNumerical Addressing Space Management Team Design, manage, and allocate ViDe.Net numerical address space and supporting routing schemes. Identify which organizations and research networks will be responsible for managing national gatekeepers, as well as allocating super-space addresses.
