2 UKOUG Education & Research Review Reasoning & Aims UKOUG Education & Research ReviewPage 2 This review is being conducted to investigate the reasons behind the decline of the events. Its aim is to create a sustainable commercial and logistical concept for the future. Initial input has been received from: Graham Spicer – UKOUG Commercial Director Lisa Dobson – UKOUG Vice President Steve Smith – UKOUG Accountable Council Member and Education & Research SIG Deputy Chair Author: Faye Wood – UKOUG Education & Research Project Manager Faye Wood

3 UKOUG Education & Research History UKOUG Education & Research ReviewPage 3 Formed before the PeopleSoft acquisition to initially cater for those institutions using Oracle Student System (OSS) and Financials applications within Oracle E-Business Suite. Since then Oracle have announced that PeopleSoft Campus Solutions is their strategic student system, and OSS is effectively end-of-life. The Education & Research SIG still sits under the E-Business Suite community, and aims to ensure a close working relationship both between Oracle and the User Group and between the individual members themselves. The SIG should also act as a platform to discuss short and long term requirements of the sector and how the group can work collaboratively with Oracle to maximise the benefits of your investment in Oracle. The Education and Research SIG is an industry focus group open to all Education and Research organisations in the UK to provide a forum for information sharing and experience among Higher Education customers who use Oracle Applications, Reporting Tools or Oracle Middleware/Database technology. Events for this group include: Education & Research SIGs, Public Sector combined event and UK Oracle User Group Conference. Education & Research committee: Chair - Karen Mace, University of Derby Deputy - Steve Smith, University of Cambridge Deputy - Mike Haward, University College London Deputy - Steve Dashfield, University of Derby Oracle Liaison - Michael Donohoe UKOUG Project Manager - Faye Wood Faye Wood

What is the best focus for Education & Research? For example what is the role of Big Data within Higher Education? Faye Wood

7 Notes for Education & Research Conference Call UKOUG Education & Research ReviewPage 7 UKOUG Education & Research in its current format suffers from high levels of overlap with similar events. Set against overall low attendance, Financials/Student streams get 50% of attendees each, Tech stream really struggling (often just the SIG deputy chairs!) Education & Research is a Community not a SIG Could PeopleSoft contain a Higher Education stream? Could Higher Education go into Annual Conference? Is the Committee to narrow focused in its remit of knowledge and experience? Financials / Student Services only – what about Reporting, Development, Middleware, Database? Could we look for new committee members to assist in broadening the focus and material considered? Should we look for partnership options with more established Higher Education events? Should we look to replicate other formats? Conference type events over multiple days Multiple streams; E-Business, PeopleSoft, Tech, Business Intelligence Increased inclusion of 3 rd parties Faye Wood
