Using Interact!

OPENING THE NECESSARY SOFTWARE To access the Interact service, you need to use software entitled “FirstClass.” Click and hold the Apple icon in the menubar at the top of your screen. Select “FirstClass” from the menu that appears and release the mouse button.

LOGGING ON TO THE SYSTEM A login box like the one below should appear on your screen. In the box labeled “User ID:” type your login name. In the box labeled “Password:”, type your password. Your login name and password are case sensitive.

EXPLORING INTERAC T Upon logging on, a window like this one will appear. Each of the icons is a different section of the service. Those with red flags next to them are sections in which there is material that you have not yet read. The “Mailbox” icon is where your mail will be stored.

EXPLORING YOUR MAILBOX Your mailbox contains all the mail that you have written and all the mail that you have received. Those emails with red flags next to them have not yet been read. Those emails with a paperclip icon in front of them have documents attached to them that you can download to your save folder.

EXPLORING YOUR MAILBOX To read an email, double-click it. To delete an email, click it once and then click the Delete icon at the top of the email window. The service will automatically delete emails that are 90 days old, but that can be changed.

EXPLORING YOUR MAILBOX When you have opened an email by double-clicking it, it will appear in a window like the one below. Notice it gives the date and time the email was created, who it is from, what the subject is, and if applicable to whom it was CC’d.

EXPLORING YOUR MAILBOX You can reply to this email by clicking the reply icon. You can check the history of this email by clicking the history icon.

This icon is for creating a new email. SENDING AN EMAIL

This is a new mail window. Enter the subject of the mail in the subject line. In the line labeled “To:”, type your recipient.

SENDING AN EMAIL If you type in a first or last name, the software will automatically check for all Interact accounts with the name in them. It will automatically place that name in the “To:” box for you if there is only one. If you inputted a common name you would see every instance of that name. Double click the one you want. If a name appears in bold, that person is currently logged on to the service.

SENDING AN EMAIL Click the white area at the bottom of the window to type the text of your letter. To send the email, click the send and close button in the upper left corner of the window. Notice that you can have more than one address in the “To:” box. Also, you can email someone outside the Interact service by typing their full email address in the “To:” box. You can also send messages to yourself

HISTORY INFO You can determine when and email was written, sent, and read by single-clicking its icon in the mailbox window. Then click on the “History” icon. A window will appear that gives all the info about that email.
