15 CONFLICTS AND SOLUTIONS QUARRYING:SWINDEN QUARRY (Noise, dust, eyesore, heavy traffic) use of trains, covered wagons, spraying, restricting blasting times, relocating machinery to base of quarry, 2020 – flood to create lake and wildlife reserve. FOOTPATH EROSION: INGLEBOROUGH HILL AND GAPING GILL Rebuilding, Terram, wooden walkways, reseeding, signposting. HONEYPOTS:MALHAM – Traffic problems, visitor numbers. Malham Steering Committee, traffic management plan, Dales Visitor Guide, post-bus service from Skipton. HOUSING:Lack of affordable housing, large number of holiday homes. New laws – locals to be offered housing at below market price, restrictive occupancy (locals only). RESERVOIRS:GRIMWITH - Water storage for Bradford. Now part nature reserve, part sailing centre with shoreline walks. GENERAL:THE SANDFORD PRINCIPLE – In the event of conflict which cannot otherwise be resolved, conservation should take priority.
