1 COUGAR Team Procedures Mrs. McKinnell Ms. Johnston Mr. Thornton

2 Cougar Conduct Cougars are expected to… ROAR  R espectful: Raise your hand to speak. Stay in your seat unless given permission to move about the room. Do not talk when the teacher or another speaker is talking. Say please and thank you. Take care of all school property. Keep your hands and feet to yourself. Do not make any derogatory remarks. Only positive attitudes allowed!  O rganized: Always have your materials and books before class begins. This means have ALL assignments completed when you come to class.  A ttentive: Keep your focus on the task or the person to whom attention is to be directed.  R esponsible: Be intentional about your work and behavior, accepting responsibility for your actions.

3 Consequences  Warning (verbal and/or non-verbal)  Silent Lunch  IF a student receives two silent lunches, team will conference with the student, and parent will be contacted (phone).  Parent Conference  Team Detention  If a student receives three silent lunches.  School Detention  Office Referral  **In addition: School Dress Code will be strictly enforced. Please be familiar with the Auburn city School dress code found in the Drake student planner.

4 Tardiness  Tardiness: is harmful to the student’s educational process and disruptive to class.   1 st and 2 nd tardy will be recorded, but no disciplinary action will be taken.  3 rd tardy to class/school = 1 school detention  4 th tardy to class/school = 2 school detentions  5 th tardy to class/school = 3 school detentions and Parent Conference.  6 th tardy to class/school = ISS placement  7 th tardy to class/school = 1 day of School Suspension

5 IE Standards  In IE students are expected to –  Bring their book and notebook to class EVERY DAY.  Participate in class through reading (silently or aloud), completing class work, activities, quizzes and other assignments (group or individual).  Students may be working on reading/language skills or math skills.  You will receive a numerical grade for IE class based on the activities assigned

6 Late Work  Cougars are expected to turn in all assignments on time  Didn’t do your homework?  You will be assigned working lunch until the assignment is complete  All late assignments will be accepted for reduced credit

7 Backpacks  It is school policy that students store their backpacks in their lockers during the day.  UNLESS…you have 5 th period math, in this case you will pack your bag for the end of the day after 4 th period and take your backpack to 5 th period  No backpacks in science, language arts, or social studies

8 Planners  Please carry your planners with you ALL day; EXCEPT to P.E.  Remember…  The administrators (and other teachers) expect you to have your planner with you when you are in the hall  Even though you may use the restroom during passing as much as you like, you will have to use your planner to get into the bathroom during

9 Mrs. McKinnell  Has 10 years teaching experience in high school  First year at Drake  Has taught Biology, Genetics, Anatomy, AP Biology and Human Biology  Has two children: Rusty -3 rd grade and Tyler James – Kindergarten  Married for 15 years in September  Degrees from University of South Alabama and Auburn

10 Field Trip Monday, August 29 th  Field Trip  MondayAugust 29, 2011  4-H Coosa Science Lab in Columbiana: 8:15-7:00  Dress:  Wear Team Shirt  Nike Shorts are OK  Comfortable shoes  Bring Swimsuit and towel  Lunch is provided  Money for souvenirs  YOU are responsible for any valuables brought on the trip  Cell phones may be brought but left on bus  Schedule  8-10 Driving to 4-H  10-12 team Building  12-1: Hamburger Cook Out  3-5: Free time to : Swim, Canoes, golfing, rock-wall climbing, football, kickball, Frisbee  RETURN TIME: 7:00pm * 7 th grade parking lot  * Must take our own balls and frisbees

12 Mr. Thornton  -From Mobile, Al.  -Graduated from Auburn University in December of 2010.  -First year teacher who is excited to be beginning his career on the Cougar team at Drake.

15 Grading Policy Auburn City Schools sets the grading policy for tests. Therefore, the policy for the class is as follows: Tests......... 70 % Quizzes....... 15 % HW/CW...... 15 %
