3 Introduction I am from Fargo, ND Married Three children –One boy, 16 years old –Two girls, 15 and 7 years old Graduated in May of 2006 Moved to California - July 2006 Sunnymead Middle School - August 2006 Formerly, I worked at USbank – eight years

4 Classroom Expectations & Responsibilities I am respectful, responsible and courteous. I am prepared. I am a good listener.

5 Classroom Expectations & Responsibilities I stay on task. I keep myself and others safe. I do my best work always.

6 I am respectful, responsible and courteous If you respect yourself, you give respect to others. If you respect yourself, you take care of your own business. If you respect yourself, you are polite to others.

7 A respectful, responsible and courteous person ‘polices’ him/herself…all of the following should be UNNECESSARY!

8 I am prepared. I am prepared. If I respect myself, I bring everything I need to class. I write myself reminders. An emergency on my part, is not necessarily my teacher’s emergency.

9 I am a good listener. I am a good listener. I show respect for myself by being a good listener. I look at the speaker. I raise my hand to speak and don’t interrupt.

10 I stay on task. I stay on task. I respect others right to learn in a disruption-free zone. The more I get done in class, the less I have to do tomorrow.

11 I keep myself and others safe. I keep myself and others safe. Physically safe –Watch out for feet and backpacks! –No running! Emotionally safe –verbal abuse –sexual harassment –negative energy

17 Procedures Raise your hand when you want to speak. Ask to get drinks and use the restroom at appropriate times. NOT WHEN THE TEACHER IS TEACHING! The TEACHER, NOT the bell dismisses class.

18 Procedures Bring required materials to class everyday! –1 inch 3 ring binder –3 divider tabs –2 sharpened pencils –1 pen –Loose leaf paper –AGENDA –STUDENT ID WORN AROUND THE NECK –HOMEWORK

19 Procedures Assignments are to be completed on time Turn homework into the bin by period Sharpen pencils when the teacher is not teaching –Sharpen two pencils in case one breaks

20 Procedures YOU MAKE A MESS YOU CLEAN IT UP! ALL TRASH GOES IN THE GARBAGE CAN Back pack goes under your desk not in the aisles Use tools as instructed by the teacher only –Scissors –Rulers –Highlighters –Markers –Crayons –Algebra tiles –Marker boards, markers, and erasers

21 ABSENCES YOU are responsible to ask your neighbor or buddy in class for the notes Check the homework calendar for assignments missed Label the paper MAKE-UP WORK with the date of the absence Put in the make-up bin One day missed you have one day to make-up the work Two days missed you have two days to make-up the work, etc…..

22 Tardies 1 st Verbal Warning 2 nd After School Detention 3 rd Phone call home and detention 4 th After school detention 1 hour (per administration)

23 Tardies 6 th After school detention 2 hours (per administration) 8 th 1 day of OCS 10 th 3 days of OCS 12 th Refer to administration for further disciplinary action

24 Miscellanous Do not touch the teachers laptop, computer, desk, phone, or projector Cheaters do NOT get GRADES YOU WILL RESPECT THE SUBSTITUTES OR YOU CHOOSE THE CONSEQUENCE –RULES ARE TO BE FOLLOWED IN MY ABSENCE!

28 DAILY SCHEDULE 10 min = Warm-ups/ Attendance 10 min = Vocabulary 10 min = Notes 10 min = guided practice 10 min = independent practice 2 min = clean-up

29 Grading 90 – 100 = A 80 – 89 = B 70 – 79 = C 60 – 69 = D 59 – 0 = F

30 Grading Class work/Homework = 25 % –Journals/ 5 points a day –Homework/ 5 points a day Quizzes = 25% –Weekly quizzes Tests/Participation = 50% 100%
