4. FARMING LIFE ACTIVITY Please read the article “The Farming Life” and use it to document and describe the three seasons of the Egyptian Farmer.

5. SEASONS OF THE NILE The Nile flooded on a regular basis. There was a: FLOOD SEASON: It lasted from June-September. It was also called the INUNDATION. During this time, the farmers would provide a “work-tax” for the pharaoh. They would build things like the PYRAMIDS and roads. PLANTING SEASON It lasted from September-February when the flood waters would recede and the farmers would plant their crops like figs, watermelons, and grain. HARVEST SEASON It lasted from February to June, which is when fully grown crops were collected.

9. GIFTS OF THE NILE The Nile provided many “gifts”. These are items that the Nile provided to the people. They are: FOOD: like FISH, WATERFOWL, PLANTS, ETC. WATER: for DRINKING and IRRIGATION TRANSPORTATION and TRAVEL SILT which is thick, FERTILE soil found on the BOTTOM of the river. It was left behind when the river FLOODS PAPYRUS: A REED found in the river. It was used to make PAPER
