6 1 st ) Mathematical concepts are introduced using hands-on materials 2 nd ) Students then use words and pictures to represent and solve problems 3 rd ) Finally, students will learn to develop several algorithms. Students engage the math through: whole group instruction small group cooperation individual acceleration How C.A.T.S. do their Math… Students are encouraged to make connections between math concepts studied and real-world applications. Math Acceleration Projects (MAPs) will be implemented this year to help differentiate instruction. Class work becomes homework when not finished in class

16 New & Improved!! CUSD Homework Policy… Class assignments and homework are ultimately your child’s responsibility. Missing assignments, not practicing math facts or reading at night can negatively impact students’ performance. Students should spend no more than 20-30 minutes on homework each night, be in bed at a decent time, and rest for the next day. Homework consists of practicing Math Facts, nightly reading & recording # pages read in the Reading Log. (~100 pages/week) Work not completed in class will be finished during recess or in Friday study hall. Quarterly book projects completed at home. If you and your child wish to work on any concepts further, please visit our classroom website for more on-line resources & activities.
