English author and one of the famed Bronte sisters wrote Wuthering Heights (1847)

3 Wuthering Heights is Emily Brontë's only novel

4 First published under Emily’s pseudonym Ellis Bell
She was the fourth daughter of Maria Branwell ( ), who died of cancer when Emily was just three years old, and Irish clergyman Patrick Bronte ( ).

5 She was educated, but had to return home.
In 1824, Emily, with her four sisters entered the Clergy Daughter’s School at Cowan Bridge, near Kirkby Lonsdale. When Maria and Elizabeth died there a year later of tuberculosis, she and Charlotte returned home to Haworth.

6 The Moors Set in 18th Century England

7 Main characters The narrative tells the tale of the all-encompassing and passionate, yet thwarted, love between Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw, and how this unresolved passion eventually destroys them and many around them.

8 Two Narrators The narrative is non-linear, involving several flashbacks, and two primary narrators: Mr. Lockwood and Ellen "Nelly" Dean. The novel opens in 1801, with Mr. Lockwood arriving at Thrushcross Grange, a grand house on the Yorkshire moors that he is renting from the surly Heathcliff, who lives at nearby Wuthering Heights.
