Characters: Rainsford: expert hunter who falls overboard and lands on the island Whitney: Rainsford’s friend and traveling companion ; he suggests that animals feel fear when being hunted Setting: Ship-Trap Island in the Caribbean Sea: gun-shots are heard from the island and the sea crew are superstitious about it
