In 1935 Hitler began to defy the Treaty of Versailles. First they would build a new air force and expand its army.
At Munich Conference in 1938, Britain and France agreed to Hitler’s demand by giving him part of Czechoslovakia. This was known as appeasement.

Germany invaded Poland in Beginning World War II.
Hitler used blitzkrieg warfare against France and easily beat their army.

In February of 1942, Roosevelt issues Executive Order 9066, authorizing the internment of Japanese and Japanese Americans.

24. War in the Pacific
4 days after Pearl Harbor, Germany and Italy declared war on December 11th on the United States.
Japan took the Philippines from the United States in May of 1942.
But at the Battle of Midway the United States halted the Japanese advance in the Pacific. This battle turned the tide in the Pacific.

25. What was happening in Europe?
In Europe Hitler betrayed the Soviet’s after defeating France and attacked the Soviet’s.
Before Pearl Harbor, Roosevelt got the Lend-Lease Act passed which allowed America to send supplies to country’s “vital to the nation’s defense.”
This included Britain and now the Soviets.

26. War in Africa
Instead of attacking in Europe the United States and Britain went into North Africa.
US and Britain invade North Africa and won in 1943.
Next the US and Britain would turn their eyes to Europe.

28. Letters Home
Soldiers and military personnel on the battlefronts of World War II stayed connected to their loved ones through letter writing.
Because the U.S. military was concerned that intercepted letters would provide the enemy with detailed information about the location of troops and battle plans, all mail sent home was censored before it was mailed as V Mail, or Victory Mail.
