1 Bursledon Surgery FLU SEASON If you are 65 years or older, have a chronic disease like heart disease, diabetes or have a respiratory or an auto immune condition you are eligible for a flu vaccination. The next clinic dates are Tuesday 20 th October between 2.00pm-3.50pm and Wednesday 21 st October between 9.00am-11.00am. Please book your appointment at reception SWINE FLU For up to date information about Swine Flu, contact the National Pandemic Flu Service on 0800 1513 100. www.pandemicflu.direct.gov.ukwww.pandemicflu.direct.gov.uk When the Swine Flue vaccination is available the surgery will be holding vaccination clinics. The following groups will be prioritised in order:- people aged over 6 months and under 65 in the at risk groups (heart disease, diabetes, respiratory and auto immune conditions. all pregnant women, subject to licensing conditions on trimesters household contacts of people with reduced immune systems, e.g. people in regular contact with patients on treatment for cancer People aged 65 and over in the at risk groups. This does not include healthy over 65’s as they appear to have some natural immunity to the virus. October 2009 p r a c t i c e n e w s l e t t e r DO YOU HAVE A CHRONIC DISEASE, SUCH AS DIABETES, ASTHMA, COPD OR HEART DISEASE.....? If you do you are entitled to have a regular annual health check up called an Annual Review. These appointments usually take between 20-30 minutes and are with the Practice Nurse. If you have not been seen by the nurse in the last 12 months please contact the surgery to make an appointment. APPOINTMENTS You can make a pre bookable appointment up to 6 weeks in advance for both the GPs and the nurse. Late Appointments: If you arrive late for your appointment you may not be able to be seen and will be asked to re- book. Please allow plenty of time to attend your appointment. Missed Appointments: During the month of August 2009, there were 57 appointments missed by patients not attending their appointment. If you are unable to keep your appointment PLEASE telephone the surgery to cancel as soon as you can. EXTENDED HOURS We have appointments available for pre bookable non urgent matters outside of our normal core working hours. These are held on a Monday between the hours of: 7.30am-8.00am & 6.30pm-7.30pm TELEPHONE CONSULTATIONS You can now book a telephone consultation with a doctor or nurse if you feel your medical problem can be dealt with over the telephone. These appointments are available each day. Contact reception to book your consultation. PRACTICE BOUNDARY We have now extended our practice boundary area to incorporate Sarisbury Green and Swanwick.

2 HOME VISIT Our doctors typically see four patients in the time it takes to do a single visit. For this reason, we ask patients to come to the practice whenever at all possible. However, if your condition prevents you from attending an appointment at the surgery, please ring before 10.00am to arrange a visit. The receptionist will ask you for a brief description of your condition and the doctor may telephone you before the visit to assess the appropriateness of the visit. PRESCRIPTIONS Always allow 48 hours or 2 working days for your repeat prescription to be processed. The local pharmacies provide a prescription collection and delivery service. Please enquire at reception for more information about this service. Please note the reception staff are not able to take requests over the telephone. On Line Repeat Prescriptions – You can now order your repeat prescription on line through the surgery website. www.bursledonsurgery.co.uk. Please ask at reception, for a registration form.www.bursledonsurgery.co.uk BLOODS TESTS Our Health Care Assistant runs a blood clinic on the following days:- Monday 8.40am – 10.15am Tuesday 8.40am – 10.15am Friday 8.40am – 10.15am Please don’t forget to bring your blood test form along with you to your appointment. Test Results – We would encourage you to telephone for the results of any test you have. Please ring for results Monday - Friday after 2.30pm. Please allow 5 working days for blood and urine results, 7 working days for chest x-rays and 10 working days for all other x-rays and scan results. FREE EYE TEST Patients who are housebound are now able to have an optician come to their home free of charge. For information, please dial 0800 0304 082 ATTENTION GIRLS - aged 15 yrs – 18 yrs HPV Vaccinations (Human Papillomavirus) If you are female and between the ages of 15 – 18 years and not had a course of HPV vaccines you can now book an appointment here with the practice nurse. If you would like to book an appointment or want more information about the HPV vaccination scheme, please call the surgery and ask to speak to the practice nurse. WANT TO STOP…? If you are thinking about or want to give up smoking then we can offer you the right support. Please contact the surgery to book an appointment with either the Health Care Assistant or Nurse. OUT OF HOURS If you need a doctor outside of our normal core hours please telephone the surgery, which will provide you with an emergency number to ring. Bitterne Walk In Centre in Commercial Road, Bitterne is also available for minor injuries. ZERO TOLERANCE In line with the rest of the NHS we operate a policy of Zero Tolerance.
