With the help of productive prefixes a lot of new words are formed in Modern English. Non-productive suffixes that are quite seldom used to build new words in Modern English are frequently met in the vocabulary: -ock (hillock), -th (width) –t (kept). Some of the suffixes gained their productivity after having been non-productive for centuries: -ish (reddish, yellowish), -dom (boredom, serfdom, slavedom)

39 Compounding: Structural classification (1) (p. 122) Structurally, compounds are characterized by a specific order and arrangement of stems.
