1 Global overview CCC RoHS / Weee UL Type E/F – Group UL 508A
Standards & Approvals Global overview CCC RoHS / Weee UL Type E/F – Group UL 508A

2 Global Markets & Solutions
XT IEC Power Control components have been developed as devices for world markets Test Authorities European Conformance CSA Canada UL U.S.A. China Compulsory Certification China Conformite Europeen IEC / EN 60947 Europe Marine & Off-Shore Shipping Classifications The new xStart system has been developed taking consideration of standards which are valid worldwide, and thus can be used all over the world. All demands of the differing test authorities (e.g.: UL, CSA, CCC) are fulfilled. Consequently, export of the devices is simplified significantly and double inventory requirement (Europe and overseas devices) is no longer necessary. Lolyd’s Register Great Britain Germanischer Loyd Germany Det Norske Veritas (DNV) Norway Bureau Veritas (BV) France

3 ICD Compliance: Gateway to China
The CCC mark is required for specified products for sale in China Chinese GB standards are similar to IEC standards ICD Products requiring the CCC mark are: Low-voltage motor control components, auxiliary contacts Pushbuttons, relays above 36V and below 1000V Indicator lights, changeover switches, limit switches Low-voltage switchgear and control gear assemblies XT complies with and is marked with CCC

4 ICD Compliance: Gateway to China
ICD products in process for CCC marking: S801 N, R, T, V frames pending Partial Freedom line pending 50mm DP line in process IT contactors/starters have Certified Body certificates, could be CCC certified by repeating EMC tests in Chinese lab.

5 Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE)
European Union Directive Requires the marking and registration of specific electrical & electronic products, primary focus is consumer goods. Requires the collection and reuse or recycling at the end of the product life cycle. The cost is borne by the producer or importer of the equipment. Recycleable product marking

6 Reduction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS)
European Union Directive Restricts the use of several hazardous substances in certain electrical & electronic products. Implementation date is July 2006 Restricted substances Hexavalent Chromium PBB & PBDE Mercury Cadmium Lead XT will conform by end of 2005 Minor modifications to screw heads and large contactor pcb’s

7 Meeting UL Type E / Type F with XTPR MMP + XTCE Contactors
= The combination of the “Type E” motor starter with a contactor results in a “Type F” motor-starter combination. Explanation “Type E”: Mechanical (manually actuated) switching, protection against overload and short-circuit in the device. Explanation “Type F”: Mechanical (manually actuated) switching, protection against overload and short-circuit in the device, electromechanical control (contactor). Manual Type E Controller plus contactor = Type F Combination Motor Controller

10 Applications: Group Motor Installation
Group Motor Installations NEC Group Motor rules in Article UL requires that overload and controller be listed for Group Motor applications Magnetic (short circuit) trip of the MMP provides excellent group motor ratings Up to 65kA maximum available short circuit current XTPB & XTPR devices are UL Listed for Group Installations See Application Manual for more information

11 UL Distinctions – UL 508 Type E
UL 508 Type E Manual Self Protected Combination Starter (MMP Alone) Single Device having integral short circuit protection, a main set of contacts, and motor overload protection Legitimate short circuit protective device & disconnect means for the down stream motor Still requires an upstream feeder short circuit protective device but does not require a dedicated in branch circuit protection or disconnect means The unit clears a fault and does not experience welding of the power poles Remains fully functional should a short circuit within its ratings occur XTPR 32 & 63amp are UL Listed as Type E devices

12 UL Distinctions – UL 508 Type F
UL 508 Type F Combination Motor Controller (CMC) CMC consists of a Line Side Adapter, MMP, Wiring Connector Link and XTCE Contactor MMP is a self-protected manual combination starter and provides complete motor branch circuit protection Disconnecting Means Short Circuit Protection Overload Protection Contactor switches the motor instead of the MMP Contactor is not self-protected Provides long life required for most motor switching applications (millions vs. MMP thousands of operations) Magnetic coil provides for remote control via pushbuttons/PLC High fault Type 2 coordination achieved without oversizing XTFC (15, 32 & 52A) are UL Listed as Type F devices

13 Underwriters Laboratory UL 508A – Control Panels
Who is UL and what role do they play? Independent Testing Company Offering 3rd Party Certification NEMA Centric, but Going Beyond (cUL) Consistent with NEC Offer a Variety of Listing Services UL 891 – Deadfront Switchboards UL 1058 – Drawout ACBs UL 67 – Panelboards UL 98 – Disconnect Switches UL 489 – Molded Case Circuit Breakers UL 508A – Control Panels UL 508E – Self Protecting MMPs UL 508F – Combination Motor Controllers (CMCs)

14 Applying the Standard Short Circuit Protection – Panel Rating
No change to the standard, but…. Enforcement Begins April 2006 Customers will have to label with a value Customers can use fuse table or listed combinations with breakers

15 Applying the Standard Short Circuit Current Ratings Requires marking SCCR (Short Circuit Current Rating) on industrial control panels. To provide info for safe installation and inspection of panels based on application: i.e. available fault current to panel.  SCCR of the panel is based on one of the following: Short circuit rating of a listed and labeled assembly Short circuit rating established using an approved method – UL 508A-2001 Supplement B is an example Components not to be considered in Short Circuit Current Ratings Transformers, reactors, dry-type capacitors, resistors, varistors, and voltmeters

16 Applying the Standard OEM / Panelbuilder determines SCCR on panel by:
Short Circuit Current Ratings OEM / Panelbuilder determines SCCR on panel by: Short circuit test of the panel construction Obtain documented tested combinations of components list from a manufacturer who has tested and documented combinations of components, and add these combinations to panelbuilder’s UL procedure. Evaluate panel per UL508A, Supplement B (required by 4-06 if jurisdiction does not adopt 2005 NEC earlier). All components in power circuit must have ratings Panel SCCR is the lowest component short circuit rating Components or combination of components Supplement B provides tables of components w/o marked short circuit ratings

17 ICD Action Plan Developing list of EE components with short circuit values (cat no., short circuit current at application voltage, UL file info, current limiting yes/no) from UL files. Developing list of EE combination short circuit values (SCPD cat no., motor control cat no., short circuit current at application voltage, UL file info) from UL files. Product Line Teams Involved: Power control, Drives, Breakers, Disconnect Switches and Transformers Provide lists to customers via UL data base and website Target completion date of August 2005
