HOW DO YOU EXPRESS YOUR FASHION PERSONALITY?

CLOTHING CHOICES  How many of you thought about what you were going to wear today before putting it on? How much thought? Pick it out last night? A week ago?  People are stereotyped by the kinds of clothing they choose to wear each day.  Clothing affects your behavior, school performance, job outlook, and friendship possibilities. Do you agree? Give me an example.

FASHION PERSONALITIES  As we begin to study our personal fashion, it is important to know the 6 fashion personalities. 1.CLASSIC 4. SPORTY/NATURAL 2.DELICATE 5. TOWN & COUNTY 3.DRAMATIC/TRENDY 6. ROMANTIC

CLASSIC  Timeless fashions, always in style, always in good taste  Sophisticated and modest  Clothing articles found in this category include: Blazers, vests, cardigans, straight skirts, pleated skirts, nautical styles, turtlenecks, button down shirts Men’s suits, jackets with lapels Classic shoes include penny loafers, pumps, or wingtips Just about any fiber can lend itself to classical styles, argyle-patterns, cable knit sweaters, wool, linens.

DELICATE  Soft, feminine, dainty  Modest, demure, a little girlish  Design details include small cap sleeves, tiny lace trims and ribbons, peter pan collars, small buttons & bows.  Ruffles are small and hemlines are modest (not too short/long).  Fabrics include cottons, cotton-polyester blends, gingham checked, pastels, small florals, dotted Swiss, seersuckers, pin stripes and eyelet.  In men’s fashion, delicate uses pastels, small stripes and dots.

DRAMATIC/TRENDY  Flashy, attention grabbing,  Make a statement when you wear them  You stand out in a crowd and people stop to look at you  Several components make up this personality and some of them include: dramatic use of color (neons, shocking color contrast), dramatic use of texture (sequins, velvet, satin, snake skin, leather, furs, feathers, fringe), abstract styles (look more like a costume), bare skin (exteme minis, tube tops, bare backs, etc)  Accessories are over-sized, unusual, and flashy  Almost all designers include at least a few dramatic or trendy fashions into their lines to make a statement

SPORTY/NATURAL  Comfortable and versatile; very popular among students  Sweats, workout clothes, stretch pants, tshirts, jerseys  Fabrics include cotton, polyester, fleece, or lycra-spandex  There are few design details.  Simple lines, elastic waistlines, pull over styles

TOWN & COUNTRY  Also popular with students because, while it is comfortable, it is tailored and contains more detail than the sporty and natural personality.  Tailored with natural, heavy fabrics, such as denim and twill.  Fabrics include denim, leather, corduroy, plaid, flannel, etc.  Accessories include cowboy boots along with any other simple style boot, braided belts, leather belts, silver or gold studs, cowboy hats, bolo ties, simple jewelry.

ROMANTIC  One of the most exciting personalities even though it is the one worn the least.  Very dressy, too dressy for everyday wear.  Exaggerated, elegant, extremely formal  Details include large ruffles or rows and rows of larger ruffles, rows of covered buttons, string of pearls  Fabrics include lace, sating, silks, brocade, crepe  Accessories are soft, such as pearls, very conservative  Men’s romantic styles include tuxedos, black suits, ruffled front shirts  Romantic styles are soft, not provocative

WHICH FASHION PERSONALITY DO YOU HAVE?  Think about your personality and how it affects your overall image.  What image do you want to project to your peers? Family? Teachers? Is it ever different?  Your image says a lot about who you are before you ever open your mouth. Remember you never get a second chance to make a 1 st impression.

ACTIVITY  Write 3 words that describe your overall image based on what you believe your fashion personality is.  Style 1 fashion template with an outfit that describe each word along with your fashion personality.  For example: if I think “delicate” is the fashion personality I think most of my clothing fall under then a may choose feminine as one of my words. I will then design a garment for my fashion look based around the word “feminine”.  Your fashion look should include: a total accessorized outfit Ex: dress, shirt, pants or skirt, at least 2 accessories, and shoes
