1 A Varied Menu of Activities Things we do now WIS – After school clubs, 1 x weekly – sports, ICT, Art, Y2 only – teacher led free Chapel St Nursery – After school club 1 x week for supporting brothers and sisters of children with SEN – outings creative activities, etc. After school clubs run by teacher – free After school clubs run by outside coaches – small cost Sometimes during lunchtime, usually 3 – 4 p.m - St Margaret’s of Scotland R.C. Junior Variety of activities (E.G. arthritis cricket, dance, gym) Provided by qualified coaches for all schools involved in SSP scheme before during and after school Before and after school sport Art, I.T, Language Church groups Things we could do Improved access/shared use of facilities within community Qualified coaches ICT adult learning (suite) St Margaret of Scotland Build & Multi-purpose sports hall – Hillborough Plans for more extending provision as scheme develops Sports training in holidays All voluntary, Hillborough Junior Arndale Nursery Holiday Activities for children Days for parents to stay with their children to join in activities with children Computer access for parents Lunchtime clubs – St Margarets of Scotland 1) ICT for children who don’t have computers at home and G&T 2) Dance 3) Football 4) Apparatus After school: Dance (Irish)

2 Childcare (8am – 6pm – 52 weeks per year) Things we do now Arndale Nursery & Creche – Daycare 8-6, 6 days a week, 2-7yr 11 maths Educational sessions Creche Childcare for children aged 3 months to 5 years, 48 wks a year up to a age of 8 during holiday periods. Julia Miller, Chapel St Nursery School Child minders provides childcare from birth to 16 yrs including children with special/additional needs Childcare for children aged 4 yrs – 11 yrs – term time only 3.30 – 5.30 After childcare during parent evenings Breakfast club – Hillborough infants After school club Holiday club Fundraising for sustainability Whipperley Nursery – Full daycare 8-6 5 x days 48 wks a year Birth – 7years 11 mths Holiday clubs Whipperley infants Creche for family learning courses (free) C.I.S gives out info to childcare to parents/carers, CMS & professionals Farley – After school club 3.30 –6.00 Summer schools Things we could do Fathers groups on Saturday NCMA Link childminders to all extended schools Train childminders to meet needs of community Open for more weeks? Supporting teen parents towards work Extend opening to 6pm and open a Summer School Link with children

3 Swift and Easy Referral to specialise support services Things we do now Provide info, Advise to parents – through network – phone on services etc. NCMA We run a termly multi disciplinary meeting to supporting parents in accessing services from paediatrician, SALT, health, visitor, social services etc. Julia Miller, Chapel Street Referral’s to Health & other professional i.e. speech/CAMH/SS/H.V/Ed P/NCMA Etc. Service directory provides lists of agencies/organisations that help with advice support, signposting & provide information (through children info service) Sign posting parents through our daily parent support drop in – Arndale Nursery Identify needs & inform relevant agencies or help parents’s access for themselves. Refer children with learning difficulties, behavioural problems to necessary professionals – St M of S Rainbows for children suffering loss through separation or bereavement Thing we could do Training childminders – re CAF NCMA support parents were recon & signpost Make other professional aware of what we do! i.e. family workers (Whipperley) More links with other agencies, disciplines, schools

4 Community – A view of the future Thinking/Feeling/Saying Every child and adult matters Learning for personal development as well as qualifications We don’t have to tackle this alone Our school is a real “learning community” Integrated transport system Joined up doing School benefits whole community thro (development of child & family) Doing A way to bring the whole community together regardless of creed or colour – a real opportunity to learn & play together Going into school not just for my child’s education Feeling comfortable going into school More adult learning opportunities

5 Schools –A view of the future Thinking/Feeling/Saying Schools are better resourced, more a focus of the community Integrated services Take account cultural differences – Does Luton as a whole have a culture of its own? Roles/responsibilities clearly defined I know what services would suite individual needs and they are easily Space to grow! Linking with existing services Well supported by parents in providing opportunities for children Parental confidence that school/leisure provision is totally integrated and a belief that it is here to stay Doing Fulfilling a community leave Providing a variety of activity for children to participate in Develop the whole child – not just academically more confident

7 Families/Parents – A view of the future Thinking/Feeling/Saying SMOSIS: Parents happy with affordable, good quality care, relaxed about leaving children in a safe and stimulating environment Feeling valued I can have an impact on my child’s learning I don’t have to do it alone Family Learning: an entitlement for all parents not just a few My children have much more opportunities than I did at their age Feeling supported I have a responsibility for my children’s education What about family life – When is it going to take place? Parents say ‘it’s a one stop shop for lots of my needs – some of which I didn’t know I needed till it started I am leaving with my son/daughter Doing Contributing skills and hobbies Leaning for personal, community development, more provision available (funding). Stronger links with schools and their communities Supporting schools
