13 Strategies for a Healthy Mind 1.Exercise – Decreases stress, anxiety and depression – Improves blood flow to the brain Resulting in improved memory, creativity, problem- solving skills and overall condition of your body. – Also has many benefits for your body.

14 Strategies for a Healthy Mind 2.Get enough SLEEP – Sleeping has both physical and mental benefits – During sleep, the mind and body renew their energy stores and rebuild mental energy – Too little sleep can result in memory problems.

16 Strategies for a Healthy Mind 3.Learn New Skills - AKA mental activities – Produce new connections between nerve cells that allow cells to communicate with one another so that you can store and retrieve information more easily – Challenging your mind keeps it sharp. Question: Name a disease in which the most symptoms are related to poor mental function.

17 Strategies for a Healthy Mind 4.Protect Your Head – Head injuries can affect your mental ability Memory loss and other cognitive declines – Head trauma can increase a person’s risk for developing Alzheimer’s disease. – Take precautions to protect your head while participating in physical or recreational activities – Wear a HELMET! Most vulnerable brain cells affected by alcohol are memory, attention, sleep, coordination, and judgment.
