Medication Therapy Digitalis – increases contractility and decreases heart rate. ACE-inhibitors - blocks release of angiotension-aldosterone; arterial vasodilator / afterload reducing agent Diuretics - enhance renal secretion of sodium and water by reducing circulating blood volume and decreasing preload,  pulmonary congestion. Beta Blocker - increases contractility
