3  Hay una biblioteca en la escuela There is a library in the school  Hay 10 salones en la escuela There are 10 classrooms in the school  Hay un río en la ciudad There is a river the city  Hay muchos parques en la ciudad There are many parks in the city

4  In Spanish you say “¿hay…?”  In English you say “is there…?” “are there…?”

5  ¿Hay una cama en la habitación? Is there a bed in the bedroom?  ¿Hay un chico en el restaurante? Is there a guy at the restaurant?  ¿Hay seis alumnos en la clase? Are there six students in the class?  ¿Hay muchos trenes en la estación? Are there many trains at the station? TIP: Notice that both statement and question have the same form in Spanish. The difference is on the intonation!

6 ¿Cómo se dice en español…?  There is a dog in my house. Hay un perro en mi casa.  There are four books on the table. Hay cuatro libros en la mesa.  Is there a museum downtown? ¿Hay un museo en el centro?  Are there oranges at the store? ¿Hay naranjas en la tienda?
