2 Positioning of Ball Stationary For freekick - At point of offence (unless in goal area) Goalkick – anywhere in goalarea Cornerkick – in corner arc

3 Proximity of Opponents Judgement of 10 yards (9.15m) –Use of pitch markings –Estimation by referee Do not lose sight of ball when getting wall back Remember requirements with freekick in penalty area –FK to defence – opponents outside P.A. –FK to attack – defenders 9.15m or on goalline between posts

4 Quick Free Kick Quick free kick permissible (apart from direct shot on goal) Ball still needs to be stationary Do not penalise opponents less than 9.15m from ball unless there is deliberate interference If attack mess up then tough!

5 Ball in play Usually when kicked and moved apart from –FK to defence in penalty area - has to leave penalty area –Goalkicks – have to leave penalty area

6 What happens next - Positioning Choose position for optimum view Keep an eye on wall if mix of attackers and defenders Consider goal judge if shot is probable Square – on position if heading duel is expected

7 Managing Set Pieces- Summary Get position of ball correct Get opponents correct distance – manage the wall Choose optimum position for yourself Signal restart Watch for infringements before ball in play
