Exercise has many benefits. According to MayoClinic.com, it can help control weight, improve mood, reduce the risk of developing certain chronic diseases, and improve sleep. If you're leading a sedentary life, any amount of exercise will benefit you, even if it's just five to 10 minutes a day. If you have a specific goal in mind, however, you might need to work longer than just a few minutes. Minimum Recommendations The standard recommendation for exercise is at least 30 minutes a day on most days of the week, according to a number of health experts, including Medline Plus. Other experts, such as the World Health Organization, recommend the same but in less specific terms, such as exercising for a total of 150 minutes per week, no matter how those minutes are divided. Now go to to see how age affects your exercise needs. 8
