Please turn in your syllabus and safety contract to your period’s drop box. On a scratch sheet of paper, make a list of everything you ate yesterday. (Be honest!)

Lipids Proteins Nucleic acids Carbohydrates

6 Macromolecules are built from small pieces called monomers
Monomers come together to form polymers (broader term for macromolecules)

7 Protein monomer: amino acids
Protein polymer: protein, polypeptide 2 amino acids Dipeptide + H2O Peptide bond Hydrolysis H2O Condensation

8 Amino acids join to form proteins
Draw, color, and label three amino acids, how they join together, and how they break apart in your notes. Proteins can denature.

9 Carbohydrate monomer: monosaccharide
2 monosaccharides = disaccharide Many monosaccharides = polysaccharide (polymer)

10 Monosaccharides join to form polysaccharides
Glycosidic bonds Draw, color, and label three monosaccharides, how they join together, and how they break apart in your notes.

11 Nucleic acid monomer: nucleotide
Draw and label a picture of a nucleotide in your notes. Base Phosphate Sugar
