2 A Little Bit About LCHS Olaf Formed in 1960. We have over 50 years of experience in animal welfare. Adopt out between 400- 500 homeless animals per year. We double that number by providing animal transport (Rescue Rides!) for animals that are at risk of losing their lives due to space. We have nearly 400 dedicated Volunteers and Foster Parents… and counting! We are the Panhandle’s largest adoption guaranteed organization. We are a 501c3 organization that is funded entirely by folks like you!

7 Minimum Requirements to Volunteer Be at least 16 years of age Can make a commitment of at least 6 months Complete at least 10 hours of volunteer service per month to stay active, or 50 hours over 6 months. Fiercely dedicated to animal welfare! (That means spay/ neuter too). Committed to Customer Service

8 Becoming a Volunteer Attend an Introduction Meeting- Check! Attend an Orientation Meeting for your preferred Volunteer role, get your New Volunteer Check List and Volunteer Handbook. Attend TWO Shadow Shifts with an experienced LCHS Volunteer in your role Take the Volunteer Check-list Quiz online. After 90 days of service meet with the Community Engagement Coordinator.

11 Rescue Rides Help us SAVE LIVES by driving adoptable animals at risk of being euthanized to adoption guaranteed shelters! Driving times can be anywhere between 4-8 hours depending on the final destination. Stopovers in Tallahassee are required for long trips. Common Rescue Ride routes: Douglas, GA to Tampa, FL, or Tallahassee, FL to Largo, FL. Must be willing to drive own vehicle. Have valid license and car insurance.

12 Temporary Foster Homes Bringing a homeless cat or dog into your loving home for about one week to 10 days! Help develop your fosters “people skills” We provide you with all pet supplies, including: food, bowls, bedding, toys, medication, flea and heartworm preventive. 1 for 1: the more Foster homes we have, the more animals we can save.

13 Special Skills Sorry not sweet nunchuck skills… Examples include: Photographer Gardener Handyman Writer/ Blogger Fundraiser/ Grant Writer Dog Trainers or behaviorists Cat behaviorists

14 Facility maintenance/ yard work Help us keep our facilities beautiful Includes: Blowing and bagging leaves Cleaning crates and kennels Cleaning windows, floors, restrooms Washing dishes and assisting with laundry

15 Service Groups! Groups may choose to: Volunteer at a Dog Wash Fundraiser (2 nd Saturday of each month between April – October) Distribute pet food with our Friends Fur Life Campaign Volunteer at Adoption Booths at PetSmart (1 st and 3 rd Saturday of each month) Or do a Day of Service

16 Volunteer Opportunities That Keep Regular Hours

17 Kitty Care Volunteers Located onsite at the LCHS or at PetSmart Involves looking after our adoptable cats and kittens Duties Include: Playing with the kitties! (Socialization) Cleaning litter boxes Feeding and refreshing water Brushing and grooming cats Reporting cat health and behavior Shifts are: Monday- Friday, 9:00am-11:00am, 1:00pm- 3:00pm and 3:00pm- 5:00pm Saturday and Sunday, Weekly and flexible when there are onsite events.

18 Reception Volunteers Located onsite at our main office. Duties Include: Answering the phone Problem solving with customers when possible Taking messages for staff when they are unavailable Assisting customers with our in- house cats and kittens Keeping the common areas of our facility tidy for guests Shifts are: Monday- Thursday, 10:00am- 1:30pm, and 1:15pm- 5:00pm Friday- 10:00am- 1:00pm.

19 Adoption Booths 1 st and 3 rd Saturday of every month, from 11:00am to 4:00pm. Located at PetSmart (3220 Capital Circle NE) Duties Include: Showing adoptable dogs around the store Caring for and showing our adoptable cats Informing guests of our upcoming events and fundraisers Teaching guests about our adoption process Shifts are: 10:30am- 1:30pm, or 1:15pm- 4:00pm

20 Match Maker: Adoption Volunteers Shifts are entirely offsite at Adoption Events around Tallahassee! Duties Include: Screening potential adopters, and assisting adopters with our match making process Humane Education- teach customers animal care best practices Customer Service!

21 Foster Parents Bringing a homeless cat or dog into your loving home! Actively involved in finding your foster its forever home Providing LCHS with current photos and descriptions, as well as, attending adoption booths and responding to interested adopters Help develop your fosters “people skills” We provide you with all pet supplies, including: food, bowls, bedding, toys, medication, flea and heartworm preventive. 1 for 1: the more Foster homes we have, the more animals we can save. Temporary homes, permanent happiness
