5. Coefficient of Determination R 2 takes on values between 0 and 1. Essentially, R 2 tells us how much better we can do in predicting y by using the model and computing than by just using the mean as a predictor. Note that when we use the model and compute the prediction depends on x because = b 0 + b 1 x. Thus, we act as if x contains information about y. If we just use to predict y, then we are saying that x does not contribute information about y and thus our predictions of y do not depend on x. If R 2 = 0.94, this can interpreted as 94% of the variability observed in response variable can be explained by explanatory variable.

Group Duties for Candy Grab Activity At the very top of you paper write down the name of each person for each duty in your group. 1)Quality Controller – checks for the consistency in answers among the group. Makes sure everyone shows work and writes out sentences. 2) Time Keeper – Keeps track of time and motivates the group to be efficient. 3) Reader – Reads directions carefully for the group. Helps interpret them for the group or asks questions about the directions on behalf of the group. 4) Number Checker – Double checks the calculator results everyone comes up with. 7. Directions for Candy Grab Activity DO NOT eat candy right away. WAIT!!! As a table, measure everyone’s hand length from top of middle finger to the end of their hand where their wrist begins in centimeters. Then take turns sticking your hand in the bag and grabbing as much candy as you can. Only count the candy that is in their hand. If one is dangling by the wrapper do not count it. Once you collected the data, then you can eat and complete the rest of your packet. Save some for Block 2. Everyone completes the packet. Check the rubric as you go! Finish the rest of your packet for homework. Next block you will only have 10 minutes to make sure your group is consistent with eachother.
