Presented by teacher Suzi Cristiane Scheel

Traditional food in general Brazil was colognized by Portugal, German, Switzerland, Japan among other countries. So, our taste for food suffers a big influence from all this countries and their traditions. The whole country is very known by our traditional “feijoada” which is beans soup with pieces of pork as pork knee, pork ear and pork feet. Our most famous drink is “caipirinha” which is an alcoholic drink traditionaly made of lemon, sugar cane brandy and cane sugar.

Traditional food in general However, Brazil is a huge country, and culture varies a lot. In the south, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, people are famous for the best barbecue. In the northeast, people eat many sorts of food as “rapadura”, “pamonha”, “acarajé”, “bobó de camarão” and “vatapá”. Churrasco Acarajé Vatapá Bobó de camarão RapaduraPamonha

Traditional food in general Joinville was mostly colognized by germans, so we eat many traditional sweets as them, like: “cuca”, “chineque”, “sonho” and “strudell”. Vatapá Cuca Chineque Strudell Torta alemã which means “German Pie” Sonho Strudell

The following slides are organized by meals. Just for you all to have an idea of what brazilians eat each time of the day.

Typical breakfast In the morning we have a big breakfast. Often we eat bread with butter, cheese and ham or bread with any sweet mixture made of bananas, strawberry or plum for example. It’s also common to eat whole grains with yogurt or milk. As a drink, we frequently have coffee wich is our favorite. Some like it black, some with milk and suggar. Though, there are many people who preffer having a natural fruit juice instead of coffee even in the morning.

Typical lunch At midday we have some grains, vegetables and meat. From all kinds of meat, brazilians consume more cattle meat than anything, though, we like chicken, fish and pork. Instead of meat, sometimes, we have eggs. We eat so many kinds of vegetables that it is even hard to mention all them. The most common are: lettuce, tomatos, cabbage, carrots, radish, chicory, kale, couliflower, broccoli, beetroot, pickles and palm cabbage. Every lunch we also have grains as rice, beans, soybeans, and some carbohidrates as noodles or potatos.

Typical dinner At about 7 p.m. we have the last meal of the day. This meal is very variated. Some people eat heavier food as the food we eat for lunch. But others prefer eating bread with eggs or ham. It is also common to have sandwichs, or hot dogs. Sometimes we have hamburguers, too but not too frequenltly.

Are you already hungry? =o) Well, that’s it. If you have any remaining questions about our food or drinks, please ask your teacher to send me an e-mail and then I send the answers back to you, ok?! I hope you have enjoyed it! Love, Teacher Suzi and students. Prefeito Luiz Gomes and João de Oliveira Municipal Schools Joinville – Santa Catarina – Brazil Vatapá
