1 Next Generation Mobile Service Delivery Platforms
臺灣行動服務發展現況與未來 Next Generation Mobile Service Delivery Platforms Arthur Lin (林進德) TCC New technologies

2 Outline Legacy mobile service delivery network
Problems in legacy mobile service delivery network Demands of the mobile service industry Requirement of service delivery platform SDP service flow and key functions Worldwide SDP deployment status Next generation service delivery platforms

3 Legacy Mobile Service Delivery Network

4 Problems in Legacy Mobile Service Delivery Network
Restriction to one service per bearer Difficult to support richer applications and limit to SMS based functions (VOICE / LBS related services are not normally available to CPs). No cost effective way to mix data and voice related functionality within one session. Unable to leverage global program and support simultaneous product / event launches across market within limited time frame Difficult to support individual enterprise needs for richer mobile applications Manual settlement process and no reliable audit trail to have potential revenue leakage for content / service providers Complex and expensive content development Lack of economy of scale (device limitation) for service delivery No exciting mobile content, less profit for both CPs and carriers

5 Demands of the Mobile Service Industry
Mobile data service become hard to manage Audio service Video service Marketing and entertainment service Key technology and backend integration Deliver value chain Terminal interoperability testing CRM Billing Content provider needs a new integrated service platform Media - Sony News provider – BBC Operator need a service delivery platform (SDP) Vodafone (HP& BEA solution) , CHT Lab as well. Good design but Huge implementation effort. (Public Park Model) Fareast tone CSP (IBM Web Sphere) (Private Walled Garden model Platform)

6 Requirement of Service Delivery Platform
Multiple services within one session via multiple carriers. Integration of real time, non-real time, voice and data services. Secured open architecture providing network transparency to CPs and no telecom experience needed for developers. Provide application development tool to reduce time to market Reduce OPEX on management of enhanced and call-related applications Application interoperability among carriers and terminals Flexible charging mechanism. e.g. service code insertion for SMS and MMS, event based charging, originating or destination party pays. Provide accurate information to settlement system based on pre-defined business models

7 SDP Service Flow SDP Network Delivery User Services Web Services
Eastbound interface through which 3rd party, device independent, content/apps are aquired Westbound interface through which adapted content is delivered to requesting device Southbound interface to operational and business support systems via SDP Telco Integration APIs Network Delivery User Services Internet, Intranet Wireless Wireline Brokerage Content Partners Application Users SDP Web Services Telecom Interfaces (e.g.Parlay) Multiple Sources Multiple Channels Multiple Devices Message Bus

8 SDP Key Functions Multi device support Billing
- Java Handset, GSM Handset, GPRS Handset, PC, PDA. Multi channel support - GSM, GPRS, USSD, CDMA, HTTP, PSTN, IVR Common object download functions - Subscriber Single Sign-on - Device Registration and Management - Subscriber Application/Service Enrolment - Common Authentication and Authorisation Service creation environment - Service creation APIs - Mutli-channel integration APIs - Telco backend integration APIs Billing - Billing Mediation and collection (use of existing back-end systems). - Post paid, pre-paid, and rating capabilities. 3rd party application support - Web Service Gateway, SDK/WSDL API. Content - Java Application, ring tones, images - Location based, games. Multi-modal 3G - Ability to extend platform and applications with natural language support. - Simultaneous voice and data.
