4 4 Web 2.0 Web 2.0 is a term that refers to the second generation of web development and design that facilitates communication, secure information sharing, interoperability, and collaboration on the World Wide Web –Not an update to technical specifications, but changes in the ways developers and end- users use the web

11 11 Behaviorism Also called Learning Perspective Operates on the principle that all behavior is caused by an external stimulus Assumes the learner is passive and learns in response to environmental stimulus Learner starts off as a clean slate and behavior is shaped through positive and negative reinforcement Major contributors: Ivan Pavlov and BF Skinner Pavlov example

12 12 Cognitivism Replaced Behaviorism as the dominant learning theory in the 1960s Major Principle: opening of the “black box: of the human mind is valuable and necessary for understanding how people learn Learner is viewed as an information processor People are not “programmed animals” that merely respond to environmental stimuli; people are rational beings that require active participation in order to learn, and whose actions are a consequence of thinking Major contributors: Jean Piaget

13 13 Constructivism Based on Piaget’s and Vygotsky’s theories Embraces a “top-down” instructional methodology Learner is an information constructor

14 14 Social Learning Theory Branch of Constructivism Educational psychologists refer to this as Social Constructivism People learn through social interactions with others Major Contributor: Albert Bandura
