Lifestyle Los deportes y pasatiempos populares son fúbol. Las comidas populares son Sancocho (a thick stew with fish or meat and vegetables), arroz con pollo (chicken with rice), and frijoles con chicharrón (pork and beans.)
The red stripe stands for the blood lost in the fight for independence from Spain, the yellow for Colombia’s gold and riches, and the blue for the Pacific Ocean, Caribbean Sea, and the many rivers that wind through Colombia.

Famous Colombians Fernando Botero (Artist) Fernando Botero cites traditional Colombian religious art as a primary influence on his artistic expression. His paintings and sculptures are well known internationally. In his works, traditional European subject matter combines with unique Colombian style, making Botero one of the country's most successful artists. Gabriel García Márquez (Author) Born in the town of Aracataca, García Márquez is one of Latin America's greatest writers, using his novels to explore the lifestyle and mentality of his fellow Colombians. In 1967, he published One Hundred Years of Solitude (Cien años de soledad), the novel for which he has received the greatest acclaim. Other works include Love in the Time of Cholera (El amor en los tiempos del cólera) and The General in His Labyrinth (El general en su laberinto).
