4 The ICA Journey Segmented Integrated Transformed
Nortel Corporate Presentation The ICA Journey Segmented Integrated Transformed Mobile Phone Desk IM Conferencing Telephony Directory Active Directory Applications Telephony System CS1000, CS2100/ 2000 App Suite LCS 2005 OCS 2007 Exchange UM Office Suite AD IP Phones Office Communicator Mobile Client Legacy Phone CC Client Feature Servers Media Gateway UC Clients OCS 200x+ Exchange+ Office System Business Processes ICA Vision and Continuum (2006 to 2010) Portray how ICA is transforming communications from voice to other apps, to the network and business processes Phase 1 – move from Segmented to Integrated Segmented – Multiple user experiences, multiple applications, multiple networks, complexity in the IT environment to deploy and manage. Not efficient from a TCO perspective Integrated [Removing Boundaries] – convergence at the application layer, convergence at the network layer  bringing the application layer together with the network layer for true convergence. From an end user perspective – one consistent user experience across application and network boundaries What are we doing in “Integrated” – From an end-user perspective: converging deskphone with computer, multi-modal communications in single client experience (IM, voice, video, presence, mobility). Adding UM, multi-media conferencing. From an Network & IT perspective: single directory, single identity for ease of deployment, management and single-sign on for users. Moved all communications on the data network. One user presence and contact mechanism = vs. various phones numbers etc. Transformed: Next step in the evolution – extend UC to business processes, integrate UC with LOB solutions. Extend UC across the enterprise while keeping cost and complexity low (turning UC on for the masses). How we do this: build together an open, software-based extensible UC platform that provides the opportunity to transform business processes by making people at the center of the business process. Communications architecture will evolve and adapt to UC model. As part of this – Nortel is evolving PBX and application suite to a feature server suite which will be modular and easily extensible. The joint platform will include OCS and Exchange and the telephony feature servers. Investment protection & smooth evolution – support for existing Nortel PBX systems Core value prop of journey – investment protection, ease of deployment & mgmt, lowering TCO, single-identity & user experience, mobility  so that UC can deliver true value for the business. Programmed with windows mgmt tools, on standard Intel servers. UNIQUE Only partnership with a smart unified client e.g – 2009 mass market adoption Only partnership with a unified managed platform for the backend infrastructure – 2010 mass market. Software-based UC platform Breadth of portfolio Ease of deployment & management Single, rich user experience Converged mobility Single directory & identity Investment protection UC enabled business processes Open and extensible 4 © 2004 Nortel

5 Today’s Unified Communications Solution
Don’t forget variety of devices and mobility story ! One user experience: IM, presence, business-grade telephony, desktop applications Ease of deployment: software integration, single directory (AD) Extending UC: Federation, integration into LOB applications, across clients Build on existing investments and infrastructure 5

7 Strategic Communications Direction
International SOS UC Roadmap Strategic Communications Direction Enhance our business by developing our communication capabilities. Focus on: Efficiency and Effectiveness Decrease Relative Costs Gain Competitive Advantage What are the requirements that would make UC a good solution? Enhance communication capabilities internally & externally Leverage & integrate with existing technologies Address user needs & demands for more thorough communication options Help to mitigate increasing telecommunications costs Scalable communications architecture Common interface for communicating throughout the enterprise. 7

8 Why choose the Innovative Communications Alliance?
International SOS UC Roadmap Why choose the Innovative Communications Alliance? Alliance pairs two of our largest & most strategic IT vendors We view integrated communications as a “permanent” technology Combined vendor strength assures that we are on a solid & supported technical path with the right architecture Alliance pairs two of our largest and most strategic IT vendors Most of our systems are Microsoft products or are based on Microsoft platforms, including our proprietary .NET applications Majority of our telecommunications hardware and contact center software is Nortel, which we have been in the process of IP enabling Integrated communications viewed as a “permanent” technology Combined Nortel/Microsoft strength assures that we are on a solid path building highly converged, highly capable systems Goal 1: Control Our Group Telecommunications Expenses Tangible objective that executives would be able to approve Goal 2: Enhance Our Communications Capabilities Difficult to quantify, but may be measured in terms of availability, time to resolution, enhanced business capabilities, etc. Speaker’s Note: Talk about why missing these goals will kill our UC effort How was UC approved internally as a strategic direction? GOAL 1: Control our Group Telecommunications Expenses GOAL 2: Enhance Our Communications Capability 8

9 International SOS UC Roadmap
Summary: Unified Communications Initiative We are enhancing our business by understanding and leveraging the converged technology solutions for unified communications from the Innovative Communications Alliance We are establishing a visionary communications structure for future growth and opportunities, and to continually enhance how we service our customers Summary 9
