Changes are the norm in today’s leader’s life 3.Leadership comes out of understanding that the reality is incomplete 3.Leadership comes out of understanding that the reality is incomplete 4. Leaders need to adopt new technology to increase performance effectiveness 4. Leaders need to adopt new technology to increase performance effectiveness

Organisations don’t adopt technology, human beings do that

Uncertainty: Uncertainty- because leaders don’t know to interact with new technology Human response to stressors can cause preparation to danger In the contrary: Familiarity with new environment makes it easier to solve the problems

Possible individual view prosper Autonomy development Problem of feeling and being seen isolated Hidden interdependency prosper that can reduce effective coordination and commitment of team members to leaders and leader’s responsibility to group

Data protection Obstacle of loosing data, because of transparency of information Information quality problem Misinterpretation Loosing face in critical situations

Leadership is about influencing others, building consensus on decisions, and security, loyalty and voluntary compliance

Critical instability Technology can cause critical value of control Leadership skills can slow down Leadership performance can be changed from stability to chaos

Where we are? Why we are? Where we are going?

Human feelings’ sensitivity There is negative correlation between low emotional intelligence and intellectual capabilities Emotional intelligence is the ability to understand own emotions and people around, it is a communication Low e motional intelligence reduces self- control

Leaders emerges in the mind of followers E-Leadership Feelings Knowledge Technology use The attitude of leading people should be evaluated before using technology

Better E-Leadership Focus on intangible effects of E- Leadership, rather on tangible Take a responsibility to create a better work place in using technology Develop moral skills at the same time Use technology to create a balance, not a conflict

E-Enabling The need to design each of leaders performance by using technology Not individually chosen technology can cause uncontrollable effect To implement strategies that combine individualistic and team capabilities

Communication planning E-Leadership identify as a complex situation To identify critical communication channels affected by technology Create balance Implement E-Leadership coordinating and monitoring that possible problems could be identified

Behavioral risk in E-Leadership performance To find out strategic and operational risk E- Leadership: Strategic – goals and objectives Operational – outgoing management process E-Leadership risk strategies: Risk identification Analysis Risk minimisation Risk treatment

Technology has a negative impact to collaboration, coordination, trust and relationship building process Electronic communication is more effective for completing simple tasks. Face to face – for more complicated tasks. E-Leadership shouldn’t replace face to face leadership Two way conversations should be developed

Value, power, leadership and technology

Leadership is connected with Power and Value To increase value, power and leadership and at the same time technology usage, that it could lead directly to E-Leadership

Imperfect and perfect situations Imperfect - one element increases, another decreases and whole potential is not reached Perfect – growth of all elements

Imperfect and perfect situations Technology usage at the particular level bring the value If other factors (face to face leadership) are constant, the value of technology decreases even if we raise its usage. We should combine face to face and electronic leadership to reach full potential. There is a need to reach emotional confidence in both leadership performances

Diffusion of Innovation Theory Technology adaptation and time Leaders adopt technology at the fist stage very slowly At the second stage – adaptation time is rapidly growing At the third stage – time slow down again

Diffusion of Innovation Theory Technology adaptation and time Strategic aim of effective technology adaptation is : To monitor each process Increase fist stage speed Keep the same speed of second stage’s Implement second’s stages speed

Organisational environmental quality – the balance between organisational culture and using resources to satisfy the needs and wants of individual and team Communication quality – requires rational planning and is associated with all types of communication.

Guidelines: Pre planed E-Leadership performance Create clear and understandable strategy Make E-Leadership a controllable effect Measure the value of E-Leadership in every stage Identify strategic and operational technology implementation risks E-Enable leaders Create emotional confidence

More guidelines: Use initial face to face communication Use electronic leadership for simple tasks and face to face communication for more complicated “We need to promote policies and develop business strategies which will let everybody benefit”
