Company of St. Ursula- A group of women dedicated to teaching girls Women during renaissance had more of an important role not only society but in the church Who created it? In 1535 Italian Nun Angela Merici What happened? Women would form groups a believe that important influences on others around them within the church This involved women. Women were the ones being taught and finally educated. This effected Europe by showing that women deserve education as well as the ability to read and write so their not mislead by those who can read

3 VISITATION OF HOLY MARY/ MARY WARD Visitation of Holy Mary What is it? A program which trained women to be educators Who was it created by? Cofounders: Jane of Chantal and Francis of Slaes Mary Ward: Who is she? Mary Ward of England Supported education for women Started network of schools for girls through Europe Her first work- declared “evil” by Anti- Jesuits and the church itself Her new ideas about women were considered dangerously new However, later in her life her works and beliefs were finally recognized by the church
