2 Strategic Planning Definition: Strategic Planning means developing a common vision of where the municipality wants to go and how it’s going to get there.

3 Strategic Planning It’s an organization's process of defining strategy, or direction, and making decisions on allocating its resources to pursue this strategy, including its capital and people.

4 Strategic Planning Process: In order to determine where it is going, an organization needs to know exactly where it stands, then determines where it wants to go and how it will get there.

5 Strategic Planning Planning involves 3 questions: What do we do? For Whom do we do it? How do we excel?

6 Strategic Planning The plan determines where an organization is going over the next 3 years and beyond.

7 Background to Strategic Planning Exercise 2007 At the Committee of the Whole meeting on May 28 th, 2007, Council awarded the contract for the Strategic Planning Exercise to consultants, Focus Management (resolution 343/07) The leadership team consists of all senior staff and Council

8 Background to Strategic Planning Exercise 2007 The team went into a great deal of preparation for their participation in four all-day sessions (August 29 th & 30 th & September 11 th & 20 th ) These sessions with the Consultant resulted in a final Strategic Plan document titled Consolidated Meeting Output
