1 List three thing JFK wanted to accomplish with his New Frontier. 1.To increase aid to education. 2.To provide health insurance to the elderly 3.To create a Department of Urban Affairs.

2 Successes of the New Frontier. List some successes of JFK’s legislative agenda. 1.JFK convinced Congress to invest more funds in defense and space exploration. This spending did create more jobs and stimulated economic growth. 2.JFK asked businesses to hold down prices and labor leaders to hold down pay increases. JFK got tough with business to get this to work. 3.JFK successfully asked Congress to raise the minimum wage. 4.Several JFK proposals to help create jobs and build low-income housing were approved by Congress.

3 Setbacks of the New Frontier. List some setbacks of JFK’s legislative agenda. 1.White Southern Democrats and Republicans viewed JFK’s legislative agenda as too expensive and an increase in the power of the federal government. 2.Congress refused to pass his tax cuts proposal claiming it would cause inflation. 3.Congress blocked his plans for health insurance for senior citizens. 4.Congress also blocked his plans for federal aid to education.

4 Supreme Court Cases DBQ 1.What is the main idea of the majority decision in Reynolds v. Sims ?  Uneven electoral districts violated the equal protection clause of the 14th amendment. 2.Why does Justice Harlan disagree with the majority in Reynolds v. Sims ?  He believes it is a state, not a federal issue. 3.How do you think reapportionment according to “one person, one vote” changed state politics?  Students may suggest that urban dwellers gained more influence.

5 Visual Chart: Major Decisions of the Warren Court 1.How did Brown v. Board of Education and Reynolds v. Sims affect the nation?  Brown v. Board of Education made segregation of public schools unconstitutional, requiring they be desegregated. Reynolds v. Sims led to a major restructuring of legislative voting districts. 2.What three major policy areas did the Warren Court’s decisions affect?  Civil Rights, due process, and freedom of speech and religion.
