Enzyme Bead Simulation
2
Enzyme - Organic catalyst –speeds up reactions proteins lower activation energy E a can be reused over and over
3
COENZYME - 1/2 enzyme 1/2 vitamin –enhance the effect of an enzyme
4
COOPERATIVE GROUP ROLES: Recorder - writes down data Grabber - gets the beads Polymer maker - adds the beads to the growing chain
5
TRIAL 1 - baseline Pick up your specific bead color and run it back to your desk to be added to the growing polymer chain timing is done every 10 seconds
6
TRIAL 2 - Coenzyme Same as the control but the grabber can throw the bead back to the polymer maker
7
TRIAL 3 - Denaturation Same as the baseline but you must tape together your fingers –that means NO THROWING back to the polymer maker!!!!
8
TRIAL 4: Competitive Inhibition same as the baseline but you must bounce the ping pong ball catch it then get your bead

10
Processing the Data Set up a graph of all of the data with the number of beads on the Y axis, Time (10 sec increments) on the X axis, a key for all 4 trials and the title being: Figure 1: Effects on Enzyme Action
11
Analysis Questions Refer to the packet for the questions. To complete the lab: Fill in data Make the graph Answer the questions
