3 Key Words Here are a few key words to remember while the presentation occurs. Take a moment to write these words down on a sheet of paper. Listen for these words as the slides are presented. Here are the words: Catalog, Dewey, Fiction, Call Number, Copies, Data Base, Games, Website, ID Card, Non-Fiction, and Biography

5 Literature Room South Side of the Library
Fiction, literature, biography and reference books are housed in this room. This room may be used for: Quiet reading Reader Theatre Group/individual presentation

6 Technology Room Center of the Library
This room may be used for: Internet research PowerPoint, Word and Excel creation/ presentation Library orientation Online magazine database search (Elibrary)

7 Humanities Room/Career Center North Side of the Library
Nonfiction books are housed in humanities room. This room also houses the Career Center This room may be used for: Group discussions Search for BPHS library books online

8 Non-Fiction Shelved by Dewey Decimal Number then author’s last name (except for 920’s and 921’s) 000 Generalities  100 Philosophy and Psychology 200 Religion 300 Social Science 400 Language 500 Natural Science and Mathematics 600 Technology (Applied Sciences) 700 Arts 800 Literature 900 Geography and History

9 Circulation Desk and Textbooks
Check-out books with your ID card Return books at the book return Pay 5 cents per copy when printing from the computers

10 Library Hours 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. We are open before school, during break, at lunch and after school

11 Reference books – 1 day if allowed
BOOK CHECKOUT IT'S AS EASY AS 1 ID 2 ITEMS 3 WEEKS 3 book maximum Reference books – 1 day if allowed

12 Overdue Books Books are checked out for 3 weeks
If you have any overdue library books, you will not be allowed to check out anymore items until the overdue books are returned, renewed or if lost, paid for.

13 Books Renewals Regular books may be renewed three times
Reference books – no renewal Books with holds pending cannot be renewed

14 Lost or Damaged Books Please treat our books with care and respect.
Students will be required to pay for the costs of lost or damaged books.

15 The “call numbers” are also used to look up your book
Library Website Use the “Academics” tab The library also has DATA BASES available on the website that can be accessed from home with passwords which are available in the library. The “call numbers” are also used to look up your book

16 Tech Miscellanea Save all your work to “My Documents.”
You may use a flash drive as a backup. No games, chat, or other inappropriate sites or activities! Don’t know what’s inappropriate? Ask! You may your work to yourself if you have prior permission from the library staff Choose the printer “hp 4250” printer to print. Remember to LOG OFF when you leave.

Printing from computers -- $.05 per copy Copy machine -- $.10 per copy

18 No head phones, music players, or cell phones
General Library Use No food or drinks No playing games on computers No head phones, music players, or cell phones No hats or hoods Show pass when sent by your teacher

19 FICTION is filed by author’s last name
Using Call Numbers to Find a Book. -Each book’s Call Number is the Address of that book in the Library FICTION is filed by author’s last name F Blume FIC Blume

NON-FICTION is filed by Dewey Number & author’s last name 940 Churchill

21 Using Call Numbers to Find a Book
BIOGRAPHIES are a sub-group of non-fiction. They are filed by the last name of the subject of the biography 921 Shakur

22 Using Call Numbers to Find a Book
REFERENCE is filed by Dewey number and the author’s last name R 510 Bernoulli REF 500 Euclid

Or OPAC (On-Line Public Catalog) From Home and at School: Go to the library website and click on “BPHS Library Online Catalog” “Call numbers” are also used to look up a book
