Camel Fat stored in humps helps animal to survive long periods without food; metabolized fat produces water as a by product. Snowshoe effect prevents sinking in sand as the body weight rests on sole pads with only the front ends of the hooves touching the ground
Koalas Koalas are perfectly designed for their tree- dwelling life. hands have a large gap between the first and second fingers big toe is set at a wide angle to the foot. This gives the koala a vicelike grip on branches. They comfortably sit in a tree all day because of their thickly-padded tails
Bombardier Beetle The precursor chemicals have to be stored separately in the beetle's abdomen because they combine explosively when brought together. ejected at high speed and at such a high temperature (100 C). the end of its abdomen rotates 270 degrees in any direction, which allows for an impressive "firing range."
Flying Squirrel By gliding through the air among the trees, they avoid ground predators but are still vulnerable to attack by hawks.
Giraffes Their very long necks are an adaptation to feeding at high levels in the treetops. The neck veins contain valves and a network of tiny veins (rete mirabile) to prevent blackouts when the animal lowers its head to drink..
Duck Bill Platypus The bill is a stream- lined nose and mouth for sniffing and snuffling up pond- bottom delicacies like shrimp! Perfectly designed for underwater life, the platypus has two layers of fur The platypus closes its eyes and ears underwater! How does it manage to find its food in the murky depths below? With an amazing touch-sensitive beak!
Arctic Fox During summer months, the Arctic fox has a brown coat. During winter, the coat of the Arctic fox is white, matching its icy, snowy surroundings.
Aardvark/Anteater Has a unique shaped nose to obtain food
Why Adaptions? An Adaption is any inherited characteristic that increases an organisms chance of survival Scientists have been trying to create a THEORY that would explain such amazing adaptations
