2 Minimising Dissent Give strong confident decisions Bear in mind natural reactions, but do not ignore it Caution –Persistent dissent –Aggressive dissent If abusive language is used then this becomes a sending off offence

3 Offensive / Insulting / Abusive Language Not just swear words Bear in mind natural reactions, but do not ignore it Stronger action when players are insulting / abusive to each other Definite dismissal for –Abusive language towards a referee / assistant –Racial abuse towards anyone Remember you cannot caution for foul language

4 Summary Your Control depends on how well you deal with language problems Ignoring bad language leads to a ‘rising tide’ of dissent / foul language Take appropriate action Remember to include actual words in any report
