3 Making a Statement IF CLAUSE: PRESENT If + + verb in simple present + complement If If the weather is good… RESULT CLAUSE: FUTURE + verb in future tense (will) + complement We We will go tothe beach If the weather is good, we’ll go to the beach.

4 Examples If the weather is good, we’ll go to the beach. If I don’t spend all my money before the holiday, I’ll stay in a really nice hotel. If my parents give me permission, I’ll be able to go on holiday with my friends. REMEMBER : You can write the verb in negative or affirmative form on the if clause.

5 Yes/No Questions RESULT CLAUSE: FUTURE Will + + verb in simple present + complement Will Will theycome to the party… Am/Is/Are + + verb in future tense + complement Are Are theygoing to wash the car… IF CLAUSE: PRESENT If + + verb in simple present + complement + ? if if weinvitethem?

6 Examples Will they come to the party if we invite them? Are we going to wash the car if we tell them to? REMEMBER : You can use either future tense with the first conditional (will/going to). For a short answer, you can simply respond yes they will/no they won’t or yes they are/no they aren’t.
