2 An essay usually has the following structure: 1. Headline 2. Introduction 3. Body 4. Ending/close/conclusion The four parts are explained on the following slides.

3  The headline should be brief and precise/catchy.

4  Write a general introduction to the topic in which you include e.g. a question, a statement, facts or a quotation.

5  Structure the contents of your essay in clearly defined sections.  Arrange the contents logically.  Make sure you address all the issues mentioned in the instructions.  Discuss all the aspects of the topic.  Illustrate your points of view by giving examples.  Do not use “I”.

6  End the essay appropriately e.g. by summarising the main points concluding on the overall topic providing final comments
