Something’s In The Air! Kindergarten Mrs. Sotelo’s class April 2013

Problem

Hypothesis More of us believe that water will enter the cup when it is placed in the water than those who believe that water will not enter the cup. How can we tell? The paper towel will be wet if it enters the cup. The paper towel will be dry if water does not enter the cup.

Materials Plastic cups Paper towels Bowls of water

Procedure First we will take the paper towel and bunch it up into the bottom of the plastic cup. Next we will place the cup upside down and straight into the bowl of water. Last we will take the plastic cup straight out of the water.

Procedure

Procedure

Results The water did not go inside the glass because the paper towel is dry.

Conclusion If water does not go into the cup then what is in there? (Why does the paper towel not get wet?) We learned that air takes up space and it is inside the cup when it is placed upside down in the water.
