What is iSearch iSearch is our Brand Name given to the Ebsco Discovery Service, standing for intelligent Search – one-stop intelligent Search and Discovery Tool for Academic Resources

What is iSearch? An Intelligent Search Engine that lets you find relevant information from a mega-index covering Library Catalogue, major academic databases and publishers in a single search box A Google-like searching experience providing – Nearly 50,000 Magazines & Journals – Nearly 6 million Books – Nearly 20,000 Conference Proceedings 4

Search multiple academic resources in a Single Search Box HKIEd Lib Catalog Databases Journals Emerald Journals Web of Science JSTOR EBSCO Databases ScienceDirect iSearch Foundation Index iSearch 5

What does iSearch Contain? iSearch is Consisted of Two Components: 1.EDS Base Index; (universal for all EDS clients) 2.Custom Components (Customized for individual EDS clients based on their own Library catalogues and databases that they subscribe) –[e.g. HKIEd Lib Catalog + dozens of HKIEd subscribed databases like ASP, ERIC, Edu Research Complete, EconLit, MLA Bibliography, PsycInfo, JSTOR … and some free resources like MedLine, OAIster, etc] –Plus Federated Searches to customized resources via EHIS Connectors

Library Catalogue Books, Journal Articles, Videos, Audios, News, Dissertations, Reports, Proceedings and more iSearch Some specific Databases & Journals Most HKIEd Databases & Journals Major Resources NOT Directly Indexed by iSearch : Chinese Databases WiseNews Library PressDisplay ProQuest Dissertation Abstracts Scopus Naxos

How Big is iSearch? According to EBSCO, the EDS Base Index alone covers metadata for: – Nearly 50,000 Magazines & Journals – Nearly 6 million Books – Nearly 20,000 Conference Proceedings – 825,000 CDs & DVDs – Hundreds of thousands of additional information sources from various source-types, including: Biographies Health Reports Newspapers And More

At least 149 Million Records

Does iSearch Cover All Records in HKIEd Innopac? It should, but there will be a time gap because changes (addition, removal and revision) to bibliographic records are uploaded to EDS in batch mode (eventually will be updated daily) Since EDS shows a one line item status. Users will see Multiple Locations when there are more than one item. Detailed locations are available in the detailed record display. Multiple Locations

Do you Mean that the Circulation Status Could be One-Day-Old Information? Don't worry. Although the Bib Records are updated in batch mode; the Item Status is grabbed from Innopac server dynamically Since the Item Status is generated on the run, sometimes the Item Status will not be shown when the connection times out or not enough connection slots. In those cases, it will simply suggest users to click a link to check Library catalogue (Innopac) for availability Since EDS shows a one line item status. Users will see Multiple Locations when there are more than one item. Detailed locations are available in the detailed record display. Multiple Locations
